Intel or AMD

ok HEy guys how are we all!

i have heard alot of things about AMD's crashing (is that true) and i have heard Intel Pentium D's are just as good....i need help deciding what go get

i am looking for dual core, gaming and internet, music and basic microsoft programs

plz help!

plz advise on what system to get when decided on intel or amd dual core

Amds don't crash, its usually the motherboards that are unstable etc.

Uhh, if you look at the stress test on a site (I forgot), intel D crashed while amd x2 stayed consistent.

If you were looking for dual core, opteron 165 all the way. Before they stop making them (so rumors say).

1. Whoever told you that is very wrong...
2. Pentium D is slower than the AMD X2 by a wide margin, and the PD run at almost twice the heat/power level
3. AMD is every bit as stable, in fact it's even more stable if you count the lower heat

AMD is perfectly fine.

If you are looking at a dual core CPU, well, Intel doesn't really have anything good out, which leaves us AMD

the amd ghz value cannot be compared to the intel value,..its intended to go off the rating " 3800+=3.8ghz dual core rating " but in actuality its 2.0ghz with a mighty fine core behind and efficiency that gives it its rating

if its just gaming,internet and "basic programs" youd get more bang out of a single core 4000+ which is the same price and overall faster in gaming,..so if gaming is yuor main performance strain,...go with a 4000+ san diego core instead if thats your price range

If that is all you are doing then you would be better served by Buying a 4000+ or faster single core CPU. They are still the best for internet, simple programs, and games. Seriously, your games will run faster on a single core 4000+ than they would on a dual core 4400+.

The processors, yes. But the chipsets that support the processors is where AMD has been hurting. Now it isn't so much of a problem, so I would definitely recommend AMD. But I'm still happy with my Intels for now.

If that is all you are doing with your computer you would be much better off with a single-core CPU. Intel single-cores only have a lead in heavy multitasking, some 3D rendering, and a/v encoding. AMD is better at everything else, especially gaming. So, in your case an AMD single-core would be your best choice. I would suggest a 3000+ and just overclock it. You could also get an Opteron 144 for slightly more. It has twice has much cache and overclocks much better.

ok thanks for your help, but a X2 Dual Core 3800+ is actually cheaper than a San Deiago 4000+....why is that, isnt the X2 3800+ faster? as its dual core ?

3800+ each core is slower than the 4000+, but yes its dual core

It only runs at 2.0ghz. compared to the 4000+'s 2.4ghz. However, since it is dual core, it will be able to do more things at once, as well as performing better at multithreaded apps. I believe F.E.A.R. is already multithreaded, so you should get a boost from dual core with that. Overall, single core is starting to get phased out as more dual core aware apps are coming out onto the market, so IMO, the time is right to get dual core. I recommend the Opteron line of CPUs, as they have double the cache and are known to overclock better than regular Athlon 64's.

With Via, Sis and other Ali making chipsets, back about 5 years ago, the AMD platform was more unstable than intel. But now adays with a good Nvidia chipset, and a A64 CPU, those problems are gone.

Right now they are overall better than Intel, and a good deal.
