The forthcoming Pentium E2000 family will initially consist of two processors ? Intel Pentium E2140 (1.60GHz) and Intel Pentium E2160 (1.80GHz) ? both based on the Conroe 1M core and produced using 65nm fabrication process, according to a news-story by HKEPC web-site. The new dual-core chips will have 1MB of unified level-two cache, will be compatible with 800MHz processor system bus, will support 64-bit capability, execute disable bit, Intel?s Enhanced SpeedStep technology and will have 65W thermal design power.

Could be an interesting development, real low-cost dual core processors, almost approaching budget level.

hmmm, to be honest, I dont think a normal family requests cant be filled with Pentium 4 / D.
which now after the launch of Pentium Core2Duo, their prices decreased.
in addition, the AMD 64 X2 prices are also very low right now, and will fill every need of a avarage family.

think about it that way, with whom this cpu model gonna competite? with pentium D?

By the time these are launched, you'll be hard pressed to find a Pentum 4 anywhere. These will take their place in the marketplace, so they won't really compete with them. I'm sure most normal families won't complain about decreased power consumption and better performance out of their entry-level machines.

Yeah, these new 'Core2 Pentiums' are effectively replacing the Netburst Pentiums. There will be little overlap as by Q3 07 Netburst would be effectively discontiuned.

I think it is nice and also smart of Intel to phase out Netburst in this fashion. I recently bought a Pentium D, not because I didn't know better but ONLY because I could afford a Core 2 Duo.

:thumbsup::thumbsup: for Intel.

Most normal families requests could easily be filled by a P4/XP machine with ease. Maybe even a lesser machine. For the forseeable future there is still a massive market for 'real' budget computers.

These are basically replacing the low end Pentium D's. As they start phasing those out so there isn't any official overlap.

looks like Intel going full dual core and dropping single core low end entirely. good for them.
