interested in building a case

I kind of want to build my own case, but where would you get materials to such things?
I'm not worried about tools, my grandpa has all that since he's a construction worker and stuff.

I want to build a case out of acrylic, but at the same time i don't want the case to be see through. And i want to make it quiet with optimal airflow. Acrylic is probably my best choice since its most likely easier to work with and is lighter, but it might be hard to make a acrylic case quiet.

Any one have any info on materials and stuff of that nature

I had planned on doing this same thing using aluminum tubing and carbon fiber panels. However, 60 hours of work a week while going to school full-time has me in idle mode. If you wanted to go the acrylic route, I saw a cool case done in the back of Maximum PC (May 2003) in which the modder made the case look like the glass walls in the movie "13 ghosts". I am looking over the article (yes I keep my old Maximum PC mags...how sad), and I do not see where it states how he etched the lexan that he used. It just says that the text is "inscribed".
