Intermitent Boot problems

My computer boots normally about 90% of the time. It goes to the RPC screen and starts counting when it doesn't boot.

I just recently got a new hard drive(IBM GXP-120) because I thought my old one(Maxtor) was getting ready to go..about half the time the Maxtor would make funny sounds and the hard drive could not be found when I was booting up. Plus the machine would freeze up when it went to sleep.

So far with the new hard drive the only problem that I have found has been the 10% that it wouldn't boot properly(normally a 3 finger salute fixes everything)

Any idea on what is going on?
System specs:
ECS K7S5A MB with latest drivers and bios
384 MB Crucial PC2100
1.2 266 TBird
IBM GXP-120 60GB HD
Geforce MX vid card
400 Watt PS
Windows 2k Pro.

RPC?
Though the it's not the same motherboard, a theory over at viahardware for the KR7A not booting properly is that the IBM drives have a high inrush of current when initially powering up. Did you have this problem with the Maxtor?

In some bios you can delay ide spinup for a second or two see if this solves the problem. If it does then the current draw is too high. HTH

Din't have the RPC problem with the Maxtor..the Maxtor just failed to detect half the time and just sat there while making low grinding sounds

Will poke around in the bios and see what I can find about IDE delay.
