internal sata dvd burner problem

i just bought a lg gh20ls10 internal sata dvd burner. i hooked it up to my sata connector on my motherboard. the strange thing is that the tray opens and closes all on its own even during installations from a dvd or cd.how can i solve this problem, i even hooked it up to the silicon image sata controller on my motherboard. still the same.

please can some one help me.

Only thing I can think of is if you have a case with an integrated faceplate/cover for the DVD drive maybe the area where it pushes against the button of the actual drive from the faceplate is too tight and causing it to depress.

Hook the drive up to power only, no signal cable and see if it does the same thing.

with no singal cable it does not do it

@akugami my is a normal Aopen case.i had lg gsa-h55n internal dvd burner which is ide and it did not do this.

is my dvd drive faulty, or is there a bios flash to fix this?

Well, the drive doesn't appear to have anything wrong with it, but it could still have a bad SATA controller on it causing it to open and close. Can you try the drive in a different computer?

Try using a different SATA cable as well. I recently had a disappearing DVD drive which I finally isolated down to a faulty SATA cable, which was brand new.

reinstalling the whole operating system solved the problem.
