internet connection sharing

I have a Win 98 system and a Win xp system. Both have nic cards, and I have a crossover cable. I want them to share the dial up modem on Win xp pc. All of the research I've been doing keeps coming down to a hub being in the picture, or some tcp/ip settings. I know there may be easier, or better ways to do this, but I thought there was a way this could be done with only a crossover cable. I've looked at ms.com, and in the help section of the xp pc. Does any one a link to a site that will explain this to me so that I can set it up the way I want to. Thanks.

Enable internet connection sharing on the WinXP machine. Plug the crossover cable into both machines. Set the win98 machine network settings to "Obtain IP and Dns automatically."

I'm sorry if I'm confused. I set up a peer to peer network the other day at a friends place. When I started to try to set this internet conncetion sharing at home, it sounds more like a network in the instuctions I've read to do this. It talks about tcp/ip hubs, and so on. do you know of a link that would help me here?

No did not help, but thanks alot. All that I have seen so far refers to using a hub, or a hub and a router. Not what I'm trying to do.

I used it to help me setup an ICS between my w2k pc and a W98 pc.

Now tell me if I'm wrong. I have set up a internet connection sharing between one win xp pc, and another with win 98. Just using a cross over cable, no hub or router. I'm able to get online with both PC now using Internet Explorer.
The win xp pc is sharing it's modem...now tell me does the win xp pc have to be always powered on, and does it have to also be online for the win 98 pc to get onlie using the win xp modem?
When logging on with the Win 98 Pc, and the win xp pc is on, it is trigering the win xp pc to go online also. Is that correct?
So if the win xp pc is off the win 98 pc will has to use it's own modem. Is taht possibe anymore for the win 98 pc to now be able to use it's old dial up settings and log on the way it use to when the win xp pc is not powered on?
Would that be possible now that I've changed it's settings by installing internet connection sharing on the win 98. Thanks I'll check bacck later this evening.
