One of the guys on here had a download of 1700k/sec!!!! What sort of connection would that be? A nicer one??

RE: Dopefiend- Yeah £30 is a bit steep for me also, but mainly Id prefer a faster upload to download. Downloading is fine as the amount of large files (100Mb +) are rare that I would download. Its mainly for my FTP server more than anything...

Well, I'm supposed to be about 320k down and 128k up but I seem to be capped at the download speed by whatever the server can do. I've reached download speeds of well over 3mbps (close to 470 kilobytes per second). I hope the cable company never fixes that.

so ill be on 2mb when this goes thru

BUT DAMN THE REST OF U !!!

Dont NTL cap the downloading you can do? I know I cant get it down this way. My friend up near Cardiff Uni has the 750k service which has a 128k upload.. I think hes fairly happy with it..

i heard that they do and i heard it was a 1Gb limit but i downloaded the planet side free trial all 1.7Gb of it and i could still down load for the rest of the day so i think its been removed.

there was abit of uproar about it, coz basically if u could only DL 1gig then all u needed was 128k connection

having 1.5mb connection made no sense cozud reach ur download limit before dinner time and be paying for something that never worked half the time quote:

1.5mbit down / 384kbit up (ADSL) for $30 a month. I could get 10mbit down / 1mbit up (cable) for $50, but don't see the need. Especially now with the recent demise of a few beloved websites...

No Offense but it would be worth your while to move to the states and get a REAL connection

Ausm

You dont need to tell me!! If only I could.. Wouldnt mind seeing what the States is like..

I mean what do you or can you use your connection for? I mean, theres only so much you can download isnt there?? unless you have 5000000000gigs of storage I think the fastest I can get for where I live is a 2mb connection which I think would download at about 200k/sec.. its the same upload tho so i havent bothered upgrading to it.. plus Im not going to pay £40 a month ($80 for a real rough guess) for internet.. £23 is bad enough!

1700kbps is only ~212KBps ... a lot of us at home can get that easily - depends on the server.

test against server 3000 miles away
test against busy server 100 miles away

Sorry but i think he meant it was 1.7mb/sec rather than what I put!! My bad! Oh well, internet is ok, but not ideal for me here.. but I feel sorry for people that have to upload from me!!

just had to lower mine from 3.0Mb up 384kb down to the 1.5 package. (I wasn't even getting 1.5down when I upgraded), so $10 more a month for me I guess.

1.544 mbit down/1.0 mbit up

Yes - I do run an ftp site off it. My max download is around 180k/s

What is nice is that I have been able to upload at a constant 150k/s

1.7Mbps = 1700 kbps = ~212KBps

If you meant 1.7MBps, that would mean 1740KBps which is unheard of... at least for home users. Imagine downloading almost 2MB every second. You'd be able to download a divx movie in 5.8 minutes.
