internet flickering, reboot problems?

Hi guys- long time lurker, just joined for some help.

I recently built a new computer with the help of a friend, it's an Athlon 64 3000+, 1 gig RAM, BFG 6800 GT, DFI Lanparty Ut NF3 mo-bo computer.

Well, ever since I got it, i turned on firewall- would that be windows firewall or the mother board one? from windows setup, accessible from the control panel as "Windows Firewall" (dumb question?)

Anyways, after a few hours of good use, my internet starts flickering on and off- AIM will have to repeatedly start up, soforth. It's uncontrollable, and nobody else in the house (on the same network, same router - we use Comcast) has the problems, so far as I can see. If I reboot my computer, the internet works fine, while before reboot nothing would get it to work for an extended period of time longer than 1 minute.

This has been happening over and over and over.

It seems to only happen if i'm actively on the computer, however. Like just now, i was idle for 12 hours, and AIM says i've been online for ~ hours. And 30 minutes after I get on the computer, problem starts again.

Today after I rebooted, I left the room quickly and came back to find the screen all scrambled up and brown /white diamonds. A press of the reset button has it working again, but I'mr eally worried. Can anybody help me out? What could be going wrong?

The scrambled screen could be an indication of overheating, or of a poor power supply. What brand/wattage is your power supply? And what temps are your cpu/case at?

I'm using the powersupply that came with the Antec Sonata case. It's 350W, I believe. thanks for the reply!

I've started to think that my problems have to do with Win XP SP2's limitations on connections allowed ....

The Windows firewall sucks, turn it off. I doubt it is having a problem with the amount of connections, but probably with the traffic on port 80 for some reason. (The port you would use while online) I would probably go with a little better PSU, but that is just me. An Antec 350 should be fine, but the GPU and everything else are high end enough to draw some serious power. The brown and white diamons sound like a video card issue, are overclocking it or have you flashed it to an Ultra? (You can't do that on stock cooling unless it is a Leadtek.)

Hrm, i turned of firewall and i'm still having the same problems. I think the DFI Lanparty Mobo comes with a built in firewall. Could that be causing problems?

I haven't overclocked anything. :/ this is really frustrating! maybe i will look into getting a better power supply. thank you!
