I'm going to be moving to Hawaii in the Fall and I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of internet service is best over there? I know this is a really random question, but I'm curious to know. Since I won't be on the mainland, will my connection be noticeably slower? I tried google-ing it, but failed miserably. Please help.

My guess would be that Satalite is going to be your best option depending on what Island in Hawaii your on. Many of the Hotels provide highspeed internet acess that way or so my friends who visited there said.

You're going to Hawaii. Get outside and enjoy sun!

(unless computers are part of your job)

You're moving to Hawaii.... You should worry less about the speed of the internet and more about the speed of teh beach bunnies.

Well I sold something to a guy over there and his email was @hawaii.rr.com. That would tell me that they have Roadrunner broadband. At some point it would have to be sattelite but that would probably be one of your best bets since it is a reliable ISP here on the mainland.

Roadrunner has a monopoly on cable internet services here. They are the fastest for downstream data, upload is capped at 256kbps. I can get downloads of 200 kilobytes / s easily from north american servers, and with concurrent filesharing connections have even been higher, up to 400 kilobytes/sec total. And that's during peak hours. Though of course, all depends on whos sharing the pipe in the local area with you. DSL is available from various providers and it's a bit cheaper but downstream noticeably slower than cable. And of course dialup is dialup. Never heard of satellite being used by anyone here, don't even think it's available. If you're on Oahu, roadrunner is available EVERYWHERE so you're in luck.

I've tried a few ISPs here on the island (Maui) and Roadrunner is the way to go.

God I'd love to get a job in Hawaii and move my family there.

Are there any nuclear physics labs there looking for admins/operators/techs?

The word, "gay" means happy. In contemporary usage, it also refers to homosexuality. It is NOT a generalized negative adjective. Such usage only promotes homophobic stereotypes and bigotry.

We have many good, contributing members who happen to be gay. Who they are is not your business, but you may not continue to post such verbal abuse on our forums. Doing so again may be reason to suspend your posting privileges.

If it's there, get it and avoid satellite like the plague. The only thing satellite is better than is dial up...I would know.

No problems, brother. You're obviously trolling. Got to have at least one loser in the group and you showed everyone that you are the very one

Aloha to all in the group.

Hawaii is pretty modern . . . just like any other US state. . . . only a bit more expensive . . . and Maui is especially nice

The best ISP in here in Hawaii is RR IMHO. If you mean LAN parties, not many, at least that I know about. Although I rarely game much, only Flight Sim 2004 and a few others on occassion.
