Internship Advice

Hello there.

I needed some advice and would appreciate help... I'm trying to decide between two internship options. I need to decide between a Singapore Airlines MRO facility in in Singapore versus a ThomsonReuters internship at the NYC Times Square office.

As an Industrial Engineering student who wishes to get into financial services eventually, I am trying to decide between the two internship options.. The Reuters internship would involve process improvement and some financial modeling and I would reporting to the Product Manager. The SQ role, on the other hand, would involve traditional quality control work at an Engine Maintenance shop floor and is not as structured as Reuters. The Reuters internship program is very structured and claims to provide ample visibility with the possibility of being able to convert to full-time upon graduation. The SQ program has hired two other interns and from asking past interns, it seems that they do give you responsibilities such as quality control checks and any other projects that might be ongoing,etc

I've been to both Singapore and NYC several times before so location wise, they wont be a "new" cultural experience,etc... Any advice would be appreciated.

What sort of living arrangements are you looking at? That was a huge deal breaker for me. The internship I currently have is paying for all expenses. They gave me a car and gas card and are reimbursing me per diem for food and housing. Also what sort of pay you are looking at.

I'm sure singapore you'd get more for your money so to speak while in NYC the cost to live there will be quite high.

Edit: Of course the work is important for resume reasons as well. Which would look better on a resume as far as stated responsibilities and how prominent are the companies and in line with what sort of work you ultimately want to do.
I'm doing hydro power as a mechanical engineer and while not quite what I had in mind originally, is now a field I'm quite interested in, and I can springboard that into different fields, IE wind, nuke, coal.

Hey.. I have family in both Singapore and NYC who I could live with... Money is not as much a factor for me since I have family to live with in both places and hence, expenses wouldn't be as much... I'm wondering whats the best one from a career standpoint..

I'd look at it from what sort of field you want to enter then. It sounds like you like the sound of the reuters job more, as it's more "in-line" with expectations and moving forward. The singapore one would probably be quite hands on and would allow you to improvise. But not quite as cushy.

It's hard to judge what would be best career wise, they both sound like good springboards into possible jobs at those companies or others, as they are both decent names it sounds like.
