Interracial Relationships

I'm caucasian and my fiance is Indian. Whether or not there are huge cultural issues obviously depends on the people involved. Our cultural differences compliment us, not divide us.

I have no issues with interracial relationships. Not everyone has an opportunity at being happy.

i do wish you luck. i had a friend who became serious with a guy who was Indian and his parents broke them up.

The OP seems to have a problem.

It can be difficult - however, in most places, such a couple may be different but not ostricized.

Much depends on the attitudes of the couple and their dirrect families.

My marriage is multi-racial and three of my children have multi-racial marriages.

It took a long while for my parents, but we endured. If has left scars on my wife, but there is at least some converstation.

My marriage made it easier for the wife of my younger brother to be accepted also.

I'm Indian and my wife is Japanese (both first generation) and we do not have any issues. We have been together for 7 years and married for 2. Sometimes in malls some Indians look at me funny, but that does not matter me to at all. Most of the time I don't even consider us interracial or at least it doesn't cross my mind. Most of time it is borught up, it is because someone asks if it was difficult for us because of it.

In response to the OP's second post... yes, realistically they can have social problems with other people. If that's the case, I would suggest they just move. Just in general. I couldn't live in an area that was so intolerant of something like this.

We live in Sugar Land, TX which is a very interracial city. Just go to the day care our little girl goes to and you will be amazed. Its at least 50% mixed.

Where in the "deep south"? My wife and I are in Atlanta and go to Alabama frequently as that is where my family is and I go back to T-town occasionally for sports.

We get looks both good and bad and it is just something you take in stride and ignore or joke about. My friends are cool with it. Her friends are cool with it. Our families have learned to adjust.

I've lived in the south, Texas, the midwest (Kansas), and the north (Michigan) as well. I'll just say that racism in the modern south isn't any worse than it is in any other place I've lived.

I'm a realist and just want the best for my friend. I'd hate to see him get hurt in any way. They have been involved in several altercations in public involving other blacks who oppose them being together but have not had any problems with whites. He told me that his family was noticeably cold about the relationship but he felt that in time, they would come around. Knowing his family like I do, I have my doubts about a few of them.

Heh...my family was more than just "cold". They came around though...especially after they witnessed us getting married.

What kind of "altercations" have happened? Physical? Verbal?

I wouldn't call being involved in an interracial relationship being "blind to real world issues". I call it being real enough to be with someone who important to you, despite the bigotry of any who would take issue with interracial relationships.

Why sacrifice one's own happiness to please a bunch of bigots? It makes absolutely no sense to me.

If any of my friends or family took issue with me being with someone from another race, they would no longer be friend or family in my book, but maybe that's just me.

I'm living a success story. My gf and I have been together for 5 years now. She's a white american, I'm a east indian. Initially it was hard to let our parents in on what's going on but now they're both fine with it. I should be planning on getting married sometime in the next few years.

BTW my sister is also part of an interacial relationship that has lasted for 11 years. She married a black guy. No problems yet and they have a child now.

I'm Asian (3/4 Burmese, 1/4 Chinese) and my current girlfriend is 3/4 White and 1/4 Japanese (but looks almost completely white). I never thought about dating a white girl really because you hardly see the white girl-asian guy thing going on, it's usually completely the other way around so I never thought I'd have a chance. Suffice it to say, when me and my girlfriend got together we just completely clicked. She loves Asian culture (and the food!) and she is completely open minded. Our families are completely cool about us dating each other and things are working out great. I guess living in Southern California helps alot with the diversity issues since it is pretty common to have mixed couples here. Since her grandmother is full Japanese, her whole family pretty much understands (if not loves) Asian culture. It just made it that much easier for me! We havent gotten any strange looks here or anywhere we've been so far.

I wouldn't have a problem dating a different race. In fact, I prefer other races to my own (white). I'm most attracted to Asian women, from there probably Native American women...honestly, I like exoctic looking women...that's where it's at.

I'd date a blackie, I haven't but I would. Attitude comes to play more than color does. If the chick and I meshed it wouldn't really matter what color skin she was (as long as she's hot). But no ghetto-queens for me...I'm too white for that.
