Where's my "don't watch any movie that isn't based 100% in reality and facts crowd at!?" I am making my list of the .001% (and this includes documentaries) that fit this and going on a movie watching spree! <woof woof>

Great talk about film versions above. We don't have 70mm here in San Diego.
Just curious what would be better:
35mm film
4K digital
IMAX

I prefer IMAX for most everything, but curious on the quality differences.

I just got back from a month on the road and have tickets to a 1:20PM showing tomorrow in full 70mm IMAX. Really looking forward to it, even if it's just doing "okay" in the reviews.

Just got back from seeing it in IMAX. I think my local IMAX theatre needs to adjust their speaker settings because it was so loud that some of the sounds were getting distorted.

As for the movie? Wow... it's hard to explain just how expansive this movie was. The closest movie I can think of would be Contact. If you were a fan of Contact, you'll be a fan of Interstellar. It almost seems like Nolan watched Contact and thought to himself, "How can I make this more epic and blow the audiences minds?" It was like he had the concept but when he was filming he had the mentality of a baseball player trying to swing for a homerun every pitch. There were plenty of misses in the movie, but when the hits came, OH BOY did they come. It was a BEAUTIFUL film to watch. Some of the space scenes were downright mystical, but it just seems Nolan was reaching further than his grasp. I'm glad I plopped down the money to see it, but I just have such conflicted feelings about it. For sure, I was definitely exhausted by the time the credits rolled. I cried, I laughed, I left exasperated.

That movie was fucking awesome. I feel like I just got Nolan'd. Fuck the haters.

That said the fiancé hated it. All the science mumbo jumbo was too much.

Gravity x Inception

^^ how far back are you?

5 rows down dead center. I could've gone lower that theater is huge.

I, too, heard it was super loud.

Not loud per se but lots of low rumbling.

Just saw it. I would give it a 7.5/10.0.

PROS
-Homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey
-This homage becomes more apparent in the final 20 minutes of the film: very trippy black hole, all-white medical room (bedroom scene of 2001), and of course you have your walking (HAL-like) monolith.
-Cameo by
Matt Damon
.
-Hans Zimmer soundtrack!!! (Itself also a homage to 2001.)
-Wrapping your head around the theory of relativity.
-FX

CONS
-A little too tidy? / Not dystopian enough?
-A little long / Too many endings.
-But also a little fast...unbelievably so. One second a farmer, the next in space?
-"All you need is love!" - the sixth dimension? A little mushy?

Loved it. I need to give it some time to settle in my head, but I'm leaning toward this being Nolan's best film ever.

I knew there would be mindfuckery, but quite simply, I couldn't guess where Nolan was going
until Cooper was falling toward the black hole. I couldn't imagine he would meet his end at that moment. Where they want I wasn't expecting, but once I saw the cubed colors, I knew he was "the ghost."
I knew I would appreciate Nolan's approach to the subject of space travel and seeding humanity, but I think I underestimated how much so.

I think the only miss was the whole "love" aspect - but I cannot complain if that is the only thing I found with which to disagree. I feel like they treated the theoretical physics wonderfully, and ultimately I think this will be one of the greats of the space genre that remain in our culture for generations.

If you were a fan of Contact, you'll be a fan of Interstellar.

I thought this as well. Movie was phenomenal and does not feel like 2.5 hours. It's just incredibly well done. Forget the critics on rotten tomatoes dropping the review average down. Ebert would have loved this movie.

Given that Kip Thorne worked with Sagan it's no surprise that if you loved Contact you'll love this. I agree 100% and thought that leaving the theater last night. Hell that trip through the wormhole was a freaking homage to Contact with what Anne Hathaway's character does.

I absolutely loved the movie. I guessed correctly on the plot twist in the 3rd act FWIW.

I also feel like there will be an extended edition blu-ray version. Felt like a few minutes of the first act was left on the cutting room floor.

Definitely going back to see it again. Saw it on IMAX and will be going back to see it again at least a couple times.

All things being equal probably 70mm IMAX>IMAX digital>35mm**>4K*>2K IMO

*if they aren't shooting 2D content through the 3D lenses/polarizer because they are lazy bastards

**if the theater playing 35mm actually know what the fuck the are doing and manages to not wreck the print

I'm seeing it in 70mm IMAX today finally.

Just saw it last night. As others have said it's kinda like a Contact mixed with Inception. It was a very well done film although it had a lot of parts that I will get cleared up on IMDB and further explanation. IMAX for me...very loud...too loud a times.

Just finished it. Loads of cheesy shit and tonnes of really cool shit. Overall thought it was decent but not great; checked my watch and rolled my eyes several times. Certainly looked cool though.

Now I'm really interested in seeing this movie. Contact is a favorite of mine. Maybe I can convince the wife to go see it tomorrow.
