Film thoughts: Super impressive visuals and score. Dragged a bit in a couple places for me but I enjoyed the story well enough even if it did get a bit hokey at times. The actors did their jobs, solid performances all around though none in particular stood out.

Projection thoughts: 70mm IMAX still rarely disappoints in awe factor (size, detail, brightness, contrast) though after watching digital for so long a lot of flaws inherent to film glare at me pretty harshly now. The print I watched had a nice green horizontal emulsion scratch for about 15 minutes and dirt/wear really grabbed my attention at some points. The sound was really not that great IMO (particularly dialog) but some of this is just the nature of legacy IMAX installations however mix could be at fault as well. Though some of that could be Dolby spoiling me with ATMOS.

Me and my wife really enjoyed it. That one part literally made me jump in my seat. The people who have watched it know what I'm talking about lol.

Airlock? If that's the one - I know what you mean! I was entirely prepared for it, I knew it was going to happen, but the delay between it getting engaged and it happening threw off my preparations. lol

Two parts that really stood out to me:
The scene where they're trying to dock with the damaged ship was crazy intense. It made me feel like I was watching Gravity all over again. The scene when they come out of the worm hole and we see ourselves coming out to the spinning universe... I actually got a little dizzy and wished I could have seen even more of it. Seeing it on an IMAX screen made me feel like I was actually in space.
Overall, a lot of the cinematography was some of the best I've ever seen. The way they ended the movie makes me wonder if Nolan may expand on this story.

Another bit of genius film making that really impressed me:
When the crew visits the first planet, Nolan throws so much suspense at you that you (or at least I did) forgot that they were experiencing special relativity. When they get back to their ship off the planet and see that Romilly has aged I think it was 27(?) years it was still surprising even though I should have been expecting it.

Just saw it this afternoon in IMAX as well. Initially planned to see it at a 70mm theater but the pre-sale tickets sold out already :\ and there was a decision to see it today.

The sound mixing I think was the worst part of the movie. Some dialog scenes just weren't loud enough (that I really pined for subtitles), but a couple other times the music/effects were so loud it crackled ear wax.

But it's a really good movie otherwise...still digesting, but at least a 9/10 for me.

That's fairly classical Nolan - a definitive, conclusive ending is not really his style.
His style exists somewhat in the Batman universe, but his non-Batman movies are all created with making the viewer think and ponder, especially about what might come next off camera. I think he absolutely nailed that concept with Interstellar.

I'm a sci-fi buff but I don't think this is a 10/10...more like a 8/10. The first 1/3 felt really weak. IMO the film only picked up steam from the ice planet onwards.

I thought my theatre's speakers were the issue, but I'm starting to see that it was probably the sound mixing instead. I definitely missed some dialogue in there as well... makes me wonder what it would sound like on a Dolby Atmos system...

I think that was good storytelling, imho. A classical three-act story.
I think it really nailed it in terms of character development, establishing both the inquisitiveness of Murph and Cooper, the mysteries, as well as the relationships. This all was directly important to events within the final act, and especially demonstrated by dialogue and revelations between Cooper, Dr. Mann, and Professor Brand (relating to the lies and the nature of mankind when facing certain situations). I don't at all mind slower beginnings when it is all very relevant to future events.

I think our Imax had it loud enough, as I don't think I missed any dialogue. I did, however, notice how incredibly bombastic the soundtrack got.

I wonder how the home mix will sound, because while the big-screen was a crucial part of the experience, I will definitely be watching this at home more than once in my lifetime. It'll be a good movie to enjoy every few years. And I need a new one for that, as The Fountain has gotten the most play of my Blu-ray collection.

That's actually quite funny to me considering I'm the only one of my friends/family that enjoys The Fountain. I thought it was amazing and everyone else just makes fun of me. Not surprisingly, it goes the same way with Noah. I think Aronofsky capture more humanity in that movie than any Bible story could. My mom just complains incessantly about the watchers

I still have yet to see The Wrestler or Noah. I've seen all of his other films. I really need to correct that. Every film of his I have loved.
I think The Fountain also happens to have one of my favorite scores. Clint Mansell makes great stuff.

just got back from seeing it, The theater closest to me apparently is a 70mm 15p imax, one of 2 in the state, i thought it was only a digital one, anyway
the visuals in the movie are stunning, simply stunning and well worth finding someplace showing the 70mm version. For me the sound was excellent as well, Personally i find a lot of movies dont have enough bass, not the case here
the movie is loud but i did not find it too loud or hard to understand, there was 1 single word i missed because the other sound going on was louder than the dialog, however what was said then is repeated a few min later anyway

was I the only one that thought near the end that "hold fuck nolan just built Rama?" i seriously could not have been the only one. That shit needs to happen

nolan only mixes 5.1, i suspect itll be a reference level mix when it hits bluray,

the Batman movies and Inception all have amazing mixes

Yep, I had the same sound issues. The crazy rumbling was the worst part (it's throughout the first 10 minutes of the movie or so, then appears at various parts throughout). It made it very difficult to hear the dialogue at times. Very annoying.

The sound issues must be at the theater level. I had no issues whatsoever other than a part where some whispering is going on. Blamed the fact I couldn't hear it in the fact that my hearing actually sucks.

Someone I know and trust implicitly with all things sound and projection saw the film in 35mm, 2K digital, and 70mm IMAX. The IMAX sound mix is bad.

Really good. Solid sci-fi. SFX not overdone. Great cast (I'm in love with both Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway, so bonus.) and direction. Long but doesn't drag. Recommend.

Nolan dialed in the theater that I was at and it was still bass-y as fuck. Not overwhelming to me but I loooove bass. It was definitely "your neighbors will call the cops on you" status.

I didn't miss any dialogue either but the wifey missed a few. God I need to watch this movie again ASAP.

I too did not notice the runtime as soon as it picked up around the 2nd act.
