you're actually referring to trading. ibanking deals with structuring the deals that companies want to make, issuing debt, etc

yeah... making and closing deals, hand shakes... lavish dinners and after hours 'entertainment' expensible as client blah blah blah, broadway shows, concerts, sports tickets... strip clubs, blowjobs... inner circles, gold rolexes....

DB is the biggest German bank, and a large bank as far as banks go as well.... but Germany is in a huge funk.

Still it makes money quarter after quarter, but there are so many other companies that are better off than DB that why bother?

BStearns, Merril, Goldman, Lehman, UBS, are much much better than DB for the past 3, and easily next 3 years.

JPM, Banc of America Securities, Wachovia, Barclays, CSFB, MStanley, are also all better places as far as a simple 'join or not' question... though still worth while to evaluate the specific position, who you report to, what you'll learn, etc.

the irony is that the ppl who work the least in college (business/finance vs engineering) end up making more $$$ and (most likely) working the most after school.

Investment bankers work some insane hours. One of my friends was talking to one of his business professors who was in the industry for about five hours about jobs, and she said: "are you looking to work full-time, or slack off a bit, and work, you know, about 80 hours a week?"

You make BANK but you certainly do pay for it in these industries...

Needless to say, he's going back to school.
