Okay one more complaint, absolutely hate the new Calendar. I used to use the Apple Calendar app for quick entry, then the Agenda Calendar app for managing the rest of it. Looks like I'm switching entirely to Agenda!

me too, the worst part of the upgrade is this, for sure.

I'm having a major bug with the mail app. Every time I try to move a message from a search to a different folder it crashes 100% of the time.

I just moved a bunch of things from inbox to junk by the "move message" button. Maybe it's related to the type of email account? Is this a gmail or yahoo or outlook?

I don't know if this has been covered yet, but the email app now gives you the option to "delete all" in the junk email box! Nice!

Yep, you can basically use a legit copy of iOS 10.6/10.7 several times. And 10.6 is sooo much better than 10.5, both under the hood and in the interface. Don't you watch the presentations? Over 300 new features! (or whatever # it was).

Unfortunately your Macbook doesn't have the glass trackpad that they introduced in 2010, because the gestures in combination with 10.7 make using iOS sooo much more pleasurable on Macbooks IMO.

I didn't know you could do that

My 10.6 cd should be arriving today but the kicker is that my net is really slow so it'll take hours to download the new itunes . There is road works outside my house and I think they are messing up the phone line. The cable companies are suppose to have it all rewired within the next 4 weeks.

Have had the opportunity of trying out iOS 7 on demo units of iPad Mini, iPad 4, iPhone 5 and iPod Touch 5. I am impressed by the improvement but I was not blown away due to the UI lag. It definitely wasn't a smooth experience that I saw on iPhone 5 with iOS 6.

Definitely needs some refinement and tweaking. I particularly dislike the fact that you can't swipe away the tasks continuously, having to wait for the task preview to center itself before another swipe is allowed. I could get used to iOS 7 but I still miss the skeuomorphic design of older iOSes.

I want to talk about task management for a moment.

[rant]

In my opinion, "closing" your apps like some people continue to do Android and now with the easier method on iOS, is mostly a learned behavior from computer usage than it is necessary for your device to keep running.

It, quite frankly, astounds me that so many people are so obsessed with closing out their apps. I simply have no idea why you'd want to manage your device in this manner. Both of the modern phone OS's are more than capable of managing memory themselves. I've been using iOS for five years now. I have never found it necessary to worry about what apps might be running. The periods of time where I have used Android for an extended length of time I feel the same way.

There are times I use the task manager. But those are only in cases where I think an app has locked up or if I want the app to start over again from the beginning (like a game or something). So I'm not saying it's completely worthless. But the obsession of some people about having to always make sure they "close" out apps on their devices is just truly baffling to me.

I shouldn't have to "manage" my phone. I should be able to pick it up and use it. This is one of the reasons I'm still on iOS. Whenever I use an Android device as a daily driver, I feel like the phone requires me to manage it. I, quite frankly, don't have time for that. That's why I'm a little disheartened at some of the changes Apple has made to iOS that seem to be more of a response to silence a very vocal minority than it is to enable the device to work better.

[/rant]

I particularly dislike the fact that you can't swipe away the tasks continuously, having to wait for the task preview to center itself before another swipe is allowed.

Just use three fingers to swipe up the three visible apps at a time. Now you're three times as efficient at managing your phone!

This would be a probable use case of my iPod Touch 4 whenever Safari crashes and it will continue to freeze till I kill the task and restart it. I'm not anal about managing its resources but I'd like to keep my app drawer to have as few apps running as possible.

My reason is that I only want the most recently used or frequently used apps to be available(maximum four apps according to width) and make it easier to access these apps rather than having a dozen of apps and having to scroll a long list to find them. All my apps are constrained to a single page(similar reason) but I do access the app drawer from time to time.

Sorry, the rant wasn't really directed at you. It was more a rant in general. I had almost put your quote at the top and thought to myself "I'm not really trying to rant at him" so I moved it down to the bottom in the hopes it wouldn't seem that way.

There is another way to kill a locked up app that you're in. Hold down the power until the slider appears and the hold down the home button. But that takes FAR too long, IMO and getting out of the app and killing it seems to be faster.

My work users are having meltdowns about the iOS7 iPad & iPhone update. Harder to use, less intuitive, hard to read, reader to push text buttons, more difficult workflow, etc.

Sigh. Change.

Yeah, same with like Photos & MMS. It's just more difficult to do now, instead of open -> use.

I'm having the same issue with Google & other places. Google just changed the homepage to the stupid grid thing. Now, instead of quickly clicking on a link to change to News, Maps, Images, whatever, I have to zero in on a little grid, and then figure out which icon I want. That extra click is annoying!!

Yeah, people resist change.

I'm not sure about the workflow comments. In general I think the UI navigation is better and overall more intuitive. It is possible that the OS broke some of their apps, but that's not what it sounds like.

However, I do agree that certain things in the OS are somewhat negative affected by the new colour scheme, particularly stuff like reading text messages and the like. I personally still prefer a black background, particularly at night.

It's too bad there was not a bit more configurability.

So, it seems like Apple has decided to remove iMessage from text message threads now... My GF has her phone off, and normally, it would fail iMessage and send as text message; however now, it just says "iMessage unavailable". I had to go a previous message thread to send a SMS.

Just had one fail to deliver and normally (at least, it used to be), I could select send as text message, but I can't now. Just send as email.

For me, if iMessage fails, it's just sent as a text automatically.

1d10t error I think. It doesn't save your old settings.

Yeah, I noticed mine was switched off when I upgraded to the 5S yesterday. Have no idea why that wouldn't be default but maybe they're expecting most people to not have text messaging plans.

Maybe it's one of those err on the side of the cheapest solution fixes.

Thanks, but that makes zero sense why it wouldn't be on by default.

Not everybody is on an unlimited texting plan. If iMessage went down for some reason, I'd be quite pissed if $10 worth of text messages got added to my bill for a conversation that I thought was free.

Not an issue for me on my current plan, but it was on my previous one. Options that can cost you money should, IMO, be off by default.

It isn't the fact that it doesn't automatically send it that is the problem. I couldn't even select the message and choose to send it as a text without changing the option (not sure if I can now that it is changed, as I haven't had a message fail again).
