Iphone 5s unlocking?

Is this even possible? I recently received an Iphone 5s gift from a relative abroad but it's locked in AT&T. I was wondering if it can be unlocked so I can use a local provider.

You can only unlock it under the following circumstances:

a)You are a current or former customer
b)If you purchased the phone with a 2 year agreement, the contract is over (or you paid the early termination fee).
c)You've had the phone for 6 months.

You're probably out of luck.

I believe it was paid in full. I asked around and some said they can unlock it for around $150 but I'm wondering if this is a reasonable price for it.

Go to the Apple store. They unlock it for a price. Or AT&T.

If they paid full price for it, send it back to them and ask them to purchase the unlocked version. It would be the same price.

It is possible to pay $$$ to get them unlocked, but I don't think $150 is worth it if the phone is paid in full. Now, if they got the phone on subsidy so that they only paid $200 for it or so, then the unlock fee may be worth it.

If it was purchased at an Apple store, you may be able to do the swap yourself. If it was purchased at an AT&T store, then you'll likely need to be the account holder it was bought with in order to return it.
