So last ngiht a friend and I spend many many hours treking to an apple store in another state to buy ipods. It was well worth it. We both got the 20 gig versions and I love mine so far. Its awesome looking (even the remote is nice looking) and works great so far. I had an archos jukebox for about a week that was not easy to navigate and had lots of lockup issues, I'm glad I tried another mp3 player.

So far I'm using ephpod to transfer files (hurry up with that usb2 card newegg......) but I need to go through and retag all my mp3s. Anyone have any favorite mp3 tagging software? how aboout any other must have software or just anything a new ipod owner should know?

Ipods are to big for my taste. Nice looking though.

Who the would want to chug along 20gigs worth of music? There is not that much good music out there and over 90% of it is all played out and old.

A nice, compact, light, solid state mp3 is what tickles my fancy. With 256mb worth of music which is about 4+ hours is MORE than enough for those everday jogging, excersing, or just going out for a walk needs.

I just got in on the 2ndGen 10 gig refurb for $169 over in HD.

If they ship it I can join in your Ipod joy.

There are multiple ways to play it in your car.
FM Transmitter (Itrip, as well as others), Tape converter, There's a cable adapter which lets you plug into your head unit if the head unit has an aux in (like for a CD player).

Personally my plans are tape out in my car for Audio books\speeches. I'm funny that way.
I could have a whole damn library in 5 gigs with plenty of room leftover to transport a couple of episodes of Enterprise AND my music files.

meh lub teh Ipod.

Why the heck did you get a USB2 card; get a Firewire card, dimwit. As for must-have software, ephPod is definately in that category. It's the first, last, and only piece of software you'll ever need to do stuff with the iPod.

It's pretty good, although I still prefer the simplicity of ephPod.

Firewire will quit charging if you turn off the pc unless you move the connector to the ac adaptor right? With it hooked up to usb and the adaptor I can shutdown the computer and still have it charge from the dock. For portability I would rather have usb since I work mostly with pcs, a usb port, even if its usb1 is easy to find if I need to dump some files. As a pc user I figure I'll have more usb2 devices than firewire also.

My only complaint with ephod is it seems perhaps less than stable once in a while

I'm also being very very careful with the ipod. I'm going to cry if I drop it and break the lcd like I'm prone to doing hehe.

And now to start tagging mp3s.......

there's a program called braintag or something like that. It will hash (analyze) each of your mp3's and fetch the ID3 tag from it's database so you don't have to type them in yourself!

I love my ipod. My 15gb is just about full I think I only have about 100mb left or so.

IMO Ephpod is the best software out there for Ipod. I've tried MMJB, xplay, and others. But nothing beats Ephpod.

My fave id tagger program is tag&rename. You have to pay to use it after 30 days I think. I bought it over a year ago now. Fantastic program, go get it. It's invaluable for cleaning up the tags
edit: I don't transfer anything on or off the Ipod to anywhere else. So I only use the firewire provided with my Audigy.

I want something with lossless FLAC support so I don't have to trancode files from my jukebox PC, since I've been too lazy to write the transcoder myself

And for FLAC you really do need a HD player (or CD-RW) since it's about 300 MB per CD.

cool, I'll check it out. Do you use anything like mp3gain to normalize your mp3s?
