Time to level any support for blocking the legal shipping lanes in the red sea.
Fuck around and find out is here and now.

Even after the missile strike and small arms fire from the boats on the Maersk commercial ship, the navy came in with... loudspeakers ordering them to back off. Only when the pirates fired on the naval helicopters did the Navy begin to return fire.

The Navy's rules of engagement are completely messed up right now ~ not engaging ballistic missile launch sites, and refusing to engage armed pirates even in the middle of acts of piracy - except when the Navy is actively being fired upon. And then letting pirates go free to attack another ship as soon as they stop firing. Those passive-defensive rules of engagement have zero chance of fixing the problem, and are ultimately Biden's responsibility.
That may be true.

But legally, nobody can say the US escalated anything or broke any international norms.

After all, the Houthi's directly opened fire on the US Navy. What did they think was going to happen?

We should like totally nuke Iran now. Eye roll
You allow pirating and ship sinking to become normalized, the global economy comes crashing down.
The consequences of that, of economic turmoil, higher cost of goods... "inflation"?
We have seen what right wing propagandists do with that material. It empowers them, draws people to peel back "liberalism".

But go on, do suggest that we should ignore being attacked.
That IS your meaning is it not, if you had bothered to make a statement with that snark.

I believe in solutions far short of mass bombing campaigns in multiple countries in the region. The Navy taking out boats was a good move. If we can isolate and strike where they are launching from that would be good as well.

What more do you want to do? Bomb Iran? Invade?

I'm pretty sure this is what they are going for. but it's a matter of time before one of ours gets hurt.

The problem really is a lack of good targets. They've learned to hide their stuff fairly well from the Saudi air campaign. We can probably degrade their surveillance of the shipping corridor some by taking out their radars but there just are not a ton of easy options on the table.

Nytimes article about the impact or lack of on energy supplies.

Yeah, people who are like "the Red Sea is closed" haven't looked at the AIS trackers at all. Still tons of bulker and tanker traffic who aren't as sensitive to risk as the container lines. I mean Ukraine is servicing multiple Panamax bulkers a day in an active war zone filled with mines on the float.

Statement from the Yemeni government

~The de facto Yemeni government has announced they are fulfilling their obligations under Article 1 of the convention on the prevention of genocide. They say that the blockade of Israeli-bound ships in the Red Sea will end when the attempted genocide ends

States' obligations under the Genocide Convention

  • Obligation not to commit genocide (Article I as interpreted by the ICJ)
  • Obligation to prevent genocide (Article I) which, according to the ICJ, has an extraterritorial scope;
  • Obligation to punish genocide (Article I);
  • Obligation to enact the necessary legislation to give effect to the provisions of the Convention (Article V);
  • Obligation to ensure that effective penalties are provided for persons found guilty of criminal conduct according to the Convention (Article V);
  • Obligation to try persons charged with genocide in a competent tribunal of the State in the territory of which the act was committed, or by an international penal tribunal with accepted jurisdiction (Article VI);
  • Obligation to grant extradition when genocide charges are involved, in accordance with laws and treaties in force (Article VII), particularly related to protection granted by international human rights law prohibiting refoulment where there is a real risk of flagrant human rights violations in the receiving State.

Saudi's and the UAE also want nothing to do with patrolling the red sea, Yemen has stated that if they do then they will attack their oil fields and light them up again, interesting dilemma?, or maybe just stop supporting Israel's genocide...

Interesting thread on global shipping and the impact caused by Yemen

Egypt is losing around 10 million a day from lost transit fees , it appears that tankers are going through, mainly cargo vessels being impacted

bunker fuel prices also appear to be skyrocketing and the refueling stations in South Africa do not have the capacity for all the ships so there are even more delays expected

Your hysteria against solving the problem of our assets being bombed.
Heaven forbid we return fire when being fired upon.

A 15-minute video that brings anyone up to speed on the situation, both local and regional. For those who'd like to know most of the pertinent details and challenges facing the US mission to secure shipping.

You're the one with desperation to blow some shit up, anything. I already specifically said that if they can identify appropriate targets in Yemen they should target them. I also specifically supported taking out the boats that had been identified as hostile You have repeatedly called for massive escalation far beyond responding to direct attacks on US flagged ships.

At least be honest about my viewpoint.
