IRQ questions for Win 2k

Just have a few questions As I am new user to Win 2k

When I installed my hardware
I have 3 pieces on same IRQ.

Geforce2 GTS
Dlink NetWork Card
and Soundblaster Live

All three seem to share irq 11.

The system says everything is working properly, However in older versions of Windows I have been able to get them all on Diff IRQ's

Any suggestions on forcing them and how to force them to their own IRQ or do I need to worry about it and just Windows do its thing ?

Thanks in Advance

As long as everything works I'd leave it alone, IMHO. I've heard of stories where every piece of hardware is on one IRQ and the system runs fine.

Here's what I did with my 2k system to disable this IRQ sharing. Disable IPCA/ACPI in bios. On initial install, press F5, F6, and F7 at the prompt, "press F6 to add storage...scsi device..."(I can't remember whether its F5 or F7 so I tried both to be certain, it won't hurt anything). Also, you might want to enable PM Control by APM in the bios(something like this). This allows Windows to still do hard drive/system shutdown without enabling ACPI which seems to force IRQ sharing.

Forgot to mention this, you want to enter in "Standard PC" when asked by win2k setup.

Here we go again....a copy and paste from my other responses:

Windows 2000 has been installed in ACPI mode and that is how it assigns its plug and play resources. Most people have no problems, other people do have problems. Usually it's all assigned to IRQ9...supposedly it's used as a gateway to virtual IRQs above 15.

Anyway, here is the article from Microsoft dealing with it.

If you want to manually assign IRQs, or just let Windows do it properly, you have to change the ACPI mode HAL to Standard PC HAL.

To do this, go into Device Manager, and look under Computer. It should say Advanced Configuration Power Interface PC. Change this to Standard PC by changing the driver. Then reboot. Hopefully it should come out OK.

If you need to reinstall, hit F5 while it is detecting all the devices right at the very beginning to manually select the Standard PC HAL. You may also need to turn ACPI off in the BIOS if you have that option.

I must say that this tip was very useful in my case; I was trying to install a firewire board (DazzleFast DV.now) and I was trying to manually assign IRQ's through BIOS but no matter what I did , it would populate IRQ9 along with a bunch of other devices. And no it was not OK sharing IRQ's with other devices ,cause everytime I started the Fast.forward software it would crash and also Adobe Premiere would crash too as soon as it was starting. Now its working fine!!Thank you!

thmz,

How do you like the DV.Now? I just got a DV.Now AV about 2 weeks ago & love it. The Fast Codec is nothing short of awesome. After my previous systems, the DV.Now Av is a dream

codehack2:

Well I still haven't used it because I was having troubles installing it, but for what I've read in the Dazzle forum, besides installation and lack of support, after you get it running, you won't change it for anything.

I think I have a record amount of devices using IRQ 9, I have 9 devices using it and no problems, wish 98 had this ability.

The reason these are sharing irqs is because acpi is enabled,if you want to disable it:

Open device manager (right click my computer,go to propeties, hardware, device manager),open the computer tab (first one down),Double click on "Advanced configuration and power interface" (to get to proporties)click the drive tab,and go down to "update driver",once you get there choose "next",then "display a list of known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver" click next, then show all hardware for this device class, then you will see a list of drivers, you want:
Manufacturer=standard computer Models=standard pc
Install this driver (it will say it wont work but it will) Reboot after you install this (it will ask you to reboot).

When you restart it will load all your devices again, you may need to track down certain files and drivers using the "find files or folders" tool ,once it reloads all your drivers you will reboot and then everything will be ok.

you're using acpi. if everything's running fine then leave it alone. but if any hardware conflicts arise then change it back to standard pc, as described by hifimaster.

How do you disable ACPI in a KT7-RAID motherboard? Under "Power Management Setup" menu, there's only "S1(POS)" and "S3(STR)" options for the ACPI. Nothing to indicate "on" or "off". Nothing else in other menus says ACPI.
