is 12gb of vram a good idea for 1400p gaming in 2023?
it will be interesting what the ray tracing numbers look like when they come out, but these charts might be interesting, especially the minimum fps numbers:

the lower v-ram does seem to hold it back vs the previous generation cards that have more.
The 4 more gigs of ram on the 4080 puts it into another ballpark at 1440p, and if you can afford it, I would suggest serious considering it. VRAM is all that really matters here.
Or go team red and pick up the VRAM that way. Last gen rx6800xt are as low as $530 new, and while it won't say nvidia on the side, it will have the VRAM. Raytracing won't be so good though.
or pick up current gen amd 7900 card that will do the raytracing, but is still going to be a good deal cheaper then a 4080 or 4090. It still will never say nvidia on the side. And you will miss out on the "joys" of the NV 12VHPWR connector.
I cannot wait for Intel to show up and disturb this space, but it looks like Intel is not quite here yet.
