I have not used an abit since the bm6 days, do their current mother boards last as long as their old ones did, cause my bm6 is still going or should i go with a similar aopen or biostar?

My ABIT NF7-S quite frankly is the best board Ive owned and seen running. I wouldnt even consider another board for a 32-bit AMD system and a few people will tend to agree with me.

Although, some people swear by ASUS and the new MSI boards. However, Ive heard very mixed results about the ASUS boards even at non-overclocked specs. I warned one of my fathers friends about this but he couldnt find an ABIT NF7-S Rev 2.0 (he doesnt trust online shopping yet). He is actually having a good experience with it at the moment.

Another friend of my fathers is having a terrible time with his ASUS board.

YMMV... hope I have helped.

EDIT: Information I supplied was for AMD only. Didnt think twice about Intel. (no-one that i know that builds pc's uses Intel)

I would go with abit over the other two you mentioned. They have improved their customer support and have had fewer problems in general. The abit is7 is highly rated by most users.

I bought a second hand NF7-S R2 and it arrived somewhat beat up due to the NB heatsink falling off during shipping and tumbling around. I got everything straightened out and installed the board. No problems other than those I created for myself. This board is a tank. I like it a lot.

in the past, I think it was semi questionable (not the worst rep, but not the best, either)
but lately I think they are fine... still a little leary of using one myself, but I hear they are quite good, and would eventually give one a try I think.
I've been a loyal Soltek fan for a few years, and not really much else.

I bought an Abit KT7 a number of years ago. It was rock solid. I recently upgraded to an Abit IS7-E. It too has been very stable (not one problem since its installation). I built a system for my nephew using the old KT7. It is still going strong!!!

Nothing but good experiences with Abit motherboards.

Your friend is on some good Rick James cocaine if he thinks Biostar or Aopen motherboards are better than Abit motherboards.

I've bought three Abit motherboards. Had no problems with any of them.

Not recent boards. BE-6, and two KR7A's. Acheived good overclocks on the KR7A's.

Good stable, overclockers. I'd recommend Abit.

In the early PIII days they had some really bad boards. All of their stuff from the past few years, since about the dawn of the AthlonXP, has been great. Good overclocking, good features, rock solid.

That's a very subjective question. My personal experiance with ABIT has been very favorable but several of my freinds have had nothing but troubles with them. They all buy Asus boards now and I cannot get anything from Asus to run stabile. I would say look for the best feature set and buy what matches your needs the best. Seems to be a crap shoot no matter who you go with.
The only bad thing I can say for sure about Abit is that it is VERY fussy with it's memory. Find out what other people run and use the same stuff.

Abit makes a great board, IMO. I've had several and my A7V266, BH6, and the NF7 I am using now have been stone solid.

I have 2.

KX7-333 and NF7-S

Both are great overclockers.
And the KX7-333 went thru my noobie OC phase without dieing.

I highly recommend these boards.

Others I tried are MSI and ASUS. Both of which I RMA'd due to problems.
(except for one, my old Asus CUSL2 <--- still lives, somewhere in Florida now (sold))

I have no troubles with Abit's reliability. I do have a VERY big beef with their 'pr' though. I would 'bone up' and read about the good, bad & uglies about all the mobos your considering and make a decision to fit your needs

I think Abit's unreliable stigma came when the capacitor problems arose about 5 years ago. Although not unique to Abit, they admitted the problem. Many other manufacturers did not. I've owned about 6 different Abit motherboards and all were just fine except a BH6, and all were pushed to their limits.

I've used their rma service on a couple of dead boards I had purchased. Everything was smooth and never paid a dime for anything capacitor related.

I'm ok with Abit

I have a BH-7 and an IC7-G. I wouldn't recommend anyone else before them - including ASUS, Gygabite or anyone else.

I'm not sure where I read it, but I did see something about Abit moving to another vendor for their better quality caps since the fiasco. Nothing was mentioned about the others changing suppliers.

They now only use Rubycon capacitors which are supposed to be some of the best in the world.
