Is Barack Obama vain?

Is it really necessary? It's just a day. I'm starting to think he really is in the bubble he speaks derisively about. The press makes a big deal about this and Obama feels it's important enough for him to go to the nation about it:roll:. Thankfully, Fox Broadcasting Company won't be airing it.

Fox won't air Obama's prime-time press conference

CNN
) ? Fox Broadcasting Company announced Monday it will not carry President Barack Obama's prime time press conference marking his first 100 days in office, the first time a broadcast network has refused an Obama administration request for that valuable airtime.

The network will instead carry its regularly scheduled episode "Lie to Me," according to its Web site. The show is among the network's most popular and draws an average of 13 million viewers a week. That compares to the relatively paltry 4.2 million who watched the president's last prime-time press conference on Fox. In all, close to 40 million watched that event on one of the eight networks that carried it.

Obama's press conference also comes at the start of the May "sweeps" period, when viewership is watched closely to set the rate networks can charge for advertising.

In a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, the network said it will alert viewers just ahead of the 8 pm ET event that the press conference will be broadcast on sister stations Fox News and Fox Business Channel.

CBS, NBC, and ABC have said they will pre-empt their regularly scheduled programs to air the president's news conference.

The Wednesday night event will be Obama's third prime-time press conference as president. His prime-time address to Congress in February was also carried by all four major broadcast networks.

The White House is not commenting on Fox's decision.

He's using his celebrity to keep communicating his plans. Whether you agree with his views or not he's smart to take any opportunity he can to articulate them on his own rather than leaving it to the networks to spin them.

Seems reasonable to me. I mean if it's a very important occasion I could understand interrupting prime time broadcasting, but do we really need to do it every few months?

I do wonder if this has more to do with Murdoch's political stance than ratings, though.

In case you're ignorant about the subject, 100 days has been a "stop for a moment and see" metric for decades. So, explain why it should not be for Obama.

If you don't understand the subject matter, why post?

please.

Obama's had like dozens of prime-time press conferences since January, none of them have been anything more than Obama delivering his talking points to the camera. no new information, no breaking developments, no compelling emergencies, etc.

but clearly the best thing to do in an economic downturn is cause tv stations to lose ratings and ad time so he can read off a press release instead of trusting people to watch and read the news and inform themselves if they want to be informed.

by all means, I'll be on the edge of my seat waiting for someone to bump this thread with what was so urgent and earth-shattering that Obama needed to screw over the networks again for.

Actually it will be his third prime time news conference.

Why can't the dumbass just talk during the day? Why's he gotta be an attention whore? And kudos to fox for putting the attention whore in his place.

Afraid you're going to miss an episode of Dancing with the Stars or the L Word?

I guess the question is has a television broadcasting company ever NOT air a presidential news conference?

I think this says more about Fox than it does Obama.

I am just glad that companies in America can legally do stuff like this.

I dislike non-emergency broadcasts like this (goes for any government official), it disrupts my TiVo recordings. I get all of my news online anyway, where I am sure the transcript will be available.

Lets me guess

Topics for the press conference

1. Economic situation
2. Healthcare reform
3. Education reform
4. Green energy

and now a 5th topic

5. Westnile SARS Bird\Swine flu pandemic that will kill 500 million Americans a month

I'll check in after the speech to see if I missed anything.

Fox further proving what we already know. Fair and balanced indeed. :disgust:
