Is IE11 any good yet?

On windows 7, I am still using IE9 as it is so robust and works with literally everything. How is IE 11 these days? Bugs worked out?

There are a few websites we use at work where the developers refuse to update, and therefor we are stuck on 9, but at home I want to try 11.

Lastly, why when a new browser is released, isn;t backwards compatibility built in for older websites that companys cannot afford / desire to update?

It's not bad. I still like Firefox better, but I use it periodically, and it's nice and fast; it seems to do fine overall. I don't like that Flash is integrated into the browser instead of using a plug-in. Internet Explorer's weakness over the years has been (and continues to be) security issues, and opening a hole with Flash doesn't help matters.

If the web developer had followed standards, it would be "backwards compatible" with new browsers by definition. What usually happens is the "developers" keep tinkering until the site looks right in IE, and wonder why it breaks every time the browser is updated.

I'm just glad IE6 is finally dying out.

Backwards compatibility was "redone" and some of the older ones don't work as intended. That was a huge let down for us at work.

IE5/IE6/IE7/IE8 had a 50/50 chance of work.

Also, there is no longer a startup mode for Backwards Compatibility therefore our users would need training... which means I would end up doing it every single time.

The reason from Microsoft was to push developers to update their code. Compatibility was a stop fix, not an end game solution. They felt they were enabling devs not to change. I honestly don't think it's there place to make these calls by force. Unfortunately optional installs don't always work when your OS now comes with 11.

S ince it is forced with Windows 8.1 it really makes headaches where there weren't before. It doesn't offer speed, security or features over previous versions. If you dont have a specific need dont bother with it.

S ince it is forced with Windows 8.1 it really makes headaches where there weren't before. It doesn't offer speed, security or features over previous versions. If you dont have a specific need dont bother with it.

I run W7 and so far, never had problem one with 11. Plus, I thought it IS more secure.

The only problem I've noticed with IE11, is if you use it in the business environment, and your users have to use documents and forms on various secure municipality and other business sites, it doesn't work well. Those types of sites don't recognize it as a compatible browser. If you are just playing FB games, I'm sure it's fine....

Is absolutely true: I can't log onto the site I partner with in Scotland with IE, never could, any version. But no problem with Pale moon, nor was there one when I was still using FX.

Well for those that are forced to use win8.1 with IE11 it appears that with Update 1 for Wind 8.1 will add an "Enterprise Mode" which should fix it for business that need the backwards compatibility (more like ie7/8 compatibility)

I've found several instances where it will not work. I use a Windows 8.1 RT tablet as my main portable machine so I cannot use another browser. It's kind of amazing to find websites that become confused with it. If you are using IE as an everyday kind of browser I think it works great but if you are using IE because you need it to work for an IE only use, it's about 50-50 in my experience.
