Is my CPU going to Die ???

Hi everyone !!!

Some days ago i've posted a problem with my CPU temperature (it was too high, over 65 + or -), well I'm starting to worry cause the temps keep going up, so my question is.... what temperature will harm my CPU ??? It's a Athlon XP 2000+ @ 1.667GHz (No overcloking). Now the winter it's tottaly over and the CPU it's running at 70-73c. It's my CPU going to die soon ????

I'm pretty worried about this so let my know if my computer it's going to burn...

What sort of heatsink are you using? You may want to check that it is seated properly. Remove it and put it back on, making sure the raised part of the heatsink is over the raised part of the socket. Athlons are rated to up to 90c, although most people have stability problems at your temp. I wouldnt worry about it dying soon, but it will probably shorten its lifespan. Is this something you built yourself or bought in a store?

That is what happened to my CPU.

I usually averaged around 50-52c but my temps kept going up until it hit 65c and my PC kept crashing.

I decided to change the HSF to an older one and after changing it noticed the thermal pad on my old HSF had melted through (bought it preassembled) causing my CPU to overheat.

If I were you, I'd check to see if there was a thermal pad on your CPU. If there is/was, scrape it off and replace it with Arctic Silver. If you used a thermal paste, you probably would have to replace it once in a while anyway.

I agree with pretty much what has been said. What heatsink are you using? what are your case temps nominally and at load, when your cpu is hot? If you're not having system instability, you needn't be concerned, generally, but the fact that the temps are continually rising may be cause for concern. Additionally, it's not expensive or difficult to get a cool running cpu.
