Is my Gigabyte HD7950 broken??

Hello, I'm in need of help with my Gigabyte HD7950 that I just bought in February.
I have a dual screen setup connected via DisplayPort on both sides (so no adaptors or anything), and all of the hardware in my pc is new from last July.
It's a REV2.0, GV-R795WF3-3GD, Bios 015.029.000.003, voltage locked but temperatures are good (48°C idle with 27% fan speed).
At the moment I'm using the latest AMD 13.4 Catalyst.
You can find the other system specs in my signature btw...

The problem seems completely random and is as follows:
I often notice the image on both screens jumping up and then back down to its original position.
More disturbing however is that sometimes it all fucks up, by which I mean the screen is full of vertical coloured stripes dancing around in spasms.
The audio and computer controls are fine though, so if I didn't saw the screens I'd think everything was in working order.

So I saw Catalyst 13.4 was released and I upgraded (uninstall previous, reboot and install new version) in the hopes of fixing this.
However, this made the screen 'jump' even more and also more often.
Just a few minutes ago the vertical stripes happened again, however this time it only happened on my main screen.
The audio was playing fine and on my 2nd screen I still saw the desktop and I could click, open and control programs...
I pulled out the DP cable from my main screen, the main image moved to my 2nd screen and there were the stripes again.
Pulling out the cables at the back of my videocard, or switching them around just made the stripes change screens.
So it's sending stripes to my 'main screen' no matter which display it's shown on.

There seem to be a lot of smart tech people on here, so PLEASE does anyone have a clue what the problem could be?
Or what I could do to troubleshoot and find the culprit.

Find out what the core and memory are clocking down to in 2D mode. They may be going too low and causing the stutter/artifacts.

Firebird, do you mean the clocks at idle?
Those are 300MHz Core, 625MHz memory and voltage is 0.950V

Sounds like a defective output. Could you try connecting 1 screen by HDMI and the other by the working DP?

Ive had similar issues to yours that turned out to be a driver issue.
I had to follow the procedure in this post to fix it. The normal remove way didnt help.

Thanks Kenmitch.
I have followed your guide and also installed the new 13.4 Catalyst version that has just been released apparently.
Let's see the following days if it changes anything.

Bubbleawsome, am I wrong in thinking it can't be one defective output at the back?
Because the stripes just switched screens when I pulled out the cable of the main screen where they showed first.
So the stripes get sent out of the 2nd DP port to my 2nd screen, meaning there's nothing different or wrong about the 1st DP port. The stripes just moved...
Also, sometimes it's only one screen, other times it was both :s

Unless you mean there's something wrong with the internal DisplayPort thing of my videocard, so when I connect a screen using another technology that one will work all right?

Oh, I thought you meant they were always on the screen that was on DP1 or DP2. Though it is worth trying another type of output.

Hi,

Just googled into this forum. I think I have a similar problem.

I have a 7950 - eyefinity setup, 3 monitors. 1 via hdmi, 1 via dvi, 1 via active dp. On a z77 extreme 4 mobo.

Running windows 8, when I got back from vacation I turned the computer on, and suddenly all screens went black. Gave it a reboot, and I had no display port monitor. After some swearing.....decided, clean install.

Did a complete new install of windows 8, but again, running in the same problem. When Ive set up the eyefinity screen (new driver install), all goes well. But than, randomly my display port monitor disappears, and cant add it anymore for some reason.

Found a solution for this? Thinking of returning it to the store,

Rgds,

I assume the active adapter is USB powered?
If so make sure the port it is connected to is not allowed to sleep.
(And if not USB powered, buy a decent adapter )

My problem seems to have gone away now luckily.
I used to have a nvidia card in this machine and apparently there were plenty of files left from that.
So in the end, I just decided to reinstall my computer and there was also a newer AMD driver.
And I haven't noticed my screen 'jumping' anymore or those random blackouts since then.

1. If you overclocked it could be that. Especially if you overvolted.

2. Use Driver Sweeper and then use the non beta drivers.

3. Could be a dodgy output like the other guy said, try using another output.

4. It is dead.
