You didn't bend any pins on the CPU socket on the board did you? I have personally seen that cause the computer to power up and all the fans would spin and post would then lock.
To re-iterate what he just said. Did you use the standoffs? Your computer case should have come with brass screws that have holes at the top to take in a screw. You are supposed to screw these into your case and place your motherboard on top of that to avoid shorting out your board. Or is your case designed to not need standoffs?
