Is my mouse port DEAD?

I just finished assembling my new Duron system and when I went to install Win 98 no mouse pointer showed up. I tried a couple different mice thinking I had a bad mouse but that did not work. I then continued to install Win 98 hoping that by some chance that drivers needed to be installed for the mouse to work (even though I doubted that was the problem). Now that Win 98 is fully installed I still get the message that NO PS2 mouse is detected. I also tried a serial mouse but that did not work either. So, I have come to this sad conclusion, my PS2 mouse port is dead and the serial ports. I hope that I am not correct because I really do not want to remove everything, to return the mobo.

BTW, the mobo is an Abit KT7

if you can, swing on in to safe mode and see if we have multiple drivers associated with the mouse.

Its been a fairly common problem with the KT7 to have dead PS2 ports. Make sure that the Comm ports are enabled in your BIOS before trying the Serial Mouse. Also, you may have to delete the PS2 mouse before the serial mouse will work. Course, even if you get a serial mouse to work, you need to RMA the mobo.
