Last night I sent my computer to shutdown but when i woke up this morning I found that windows didn't shutdown but encountered an program which it wouldn't end. So, I ended it an d it shutdown and I went to restart it but I receieve an post error of "CPU failed Cpu test" I then shut it down and turned it back on. The fans began to speed up but stopped and I get a fait "System failed cup test" however it is garbbled. Now is it my Power supply that is broke and not powering the fans and causing the "System failed Cpu test" or is it really a bust cpu messing everything else. I lean toward the power supply becuase the fans have no attactment to the MD. However, I suppose it could be both. Because the Power supply can not even power my cpu fan. It could of failed last night causing the cpu to die and it to die also. This seems unlikly because I could move the mouse and get the thing to shutdown. HELP!!! New PSU or New Cpu or BOTH!!!

What brand and model of PSU is it, and what's your system's specs in detail? Have you tried unplugging the system, clearing the CMOS, and plugging it back in?

Really try a new PSU.....I don't have one on hand.

PC power and cooling 550 deluxe
Fx-53
Asus the 939 one sorry liitle dumbfounded right now
6800 Ultra

Didn't think to try the CMOS good suggestion.

I could of caused the problem. I found out last week end that If i run the vaccum by my Comp ah it loses power and when I turn it off well it get's it back. Well I didn't notice this until I had suddenly shut off it's power and restored it serveral times.

Try this:

1) unplug the computer from the wall

2) open up the case and confirm that your main ATX power cable, your ATX12V cable and your video card's power cable are all firmly seated in their sockets.

3) remove the CMOS battery from its holder

4) clear the CMOS by moving the proper jumper to the Clear position for 30 seconds

5) put the CMOS battery back in its holder

6) plug the system into the wall again, see how it goes.

It might also have lost its BIOS, in which case you may be able to use the recovery technique that Asus shows in your manual.

I did so and I think it's the power supply. Everything powers up for 10 secs and dies. The fans, everything.

However I fear it may also be a real failed cpu....... even if it was caused by th power supply. So I guess it off to warrenty and newegg for a new PSU first.

i think it's the psu. if the cpu worked fine at first and if you didn't do anything to the cpu i don't understand how the cpu could be at fault. from what i know, psu fail more often than cpu do (i could be wrong).
