Is my PS shot??

I have a home brew pc that is using a Epox mobo and a no-name PS. All was well for about a year and now my PC will suddenly shutdown and I get a two-tone warning from the pc speaker. I thought it was temperature related but I disabled the CPU temp warning and no change. I have a good heatsink/fan and they seem to work ok. I have cleaned out the fins on the heatsink and there are two case fans besides the PS fan(built-in). My next thought is the PS is unstable and causing the problem. I would appreaciate feedback/thoughts on this.

Thanks

Often there are TWO places in BIOS for the overheat warning. But unless you changed the BIOS settings I doubt that will help. Even if they are turned in BIOS AFAIK, if it's overheating it's still gonna give the warning.

I'd suggest checking the fan on the HS, make sure it's spinning freely/fast enough. If the fan's good, take off the HS, clean it off and re-apply AS5 or whatever you have etc.

Look into installing Motherboard Monitor 5 so you can monitor the temps and voltage rails. Use the "sys log" feature and set it up to record readings to a text.doc.

The other thing to look for is whats going on underneath the fan on the Heatsink...I have seen many heatsinks all clogged up with dust bunnies...if that happens, even if your fan is spinning the air can't flow through the heatsink.

True enough. But it apears from his post that he has already done it.

I have cleaned out the fins on the heatsink

Thanks for the replies guys.

I had cleaned out the heatsink fins and after doing some more reading on-line, I ordered a new fan/heatsink paste from Newegg. I do remember flucuations in fan speed being displayed from the BIOS. We'll see if this helps or if the PS is indeed the bad guy.
