I just ordered some stuff from tiger direct...... and got screwed on the shipping....

So it's buyer beware everywhere... but if NewEgg is out of stock or short in stock on something, then that price can be more..... supply and demand... But I've found NE's shipping charges to be the cheaper of anyone's.. so if they are more expensive on product, the shippping ususally levels the playing field...

By the way.... TD's shipping is totally hosed right now... they going through some warehouse upgrade, and I can't even research the status of my order through their website.

Threads like this suck eggs. They are all too common and barely belong in General Hardware rather than Off Topic. Love it, hate it, or indifferent... vote with your rupees. Obviously, this retailer is content with their profits from buyers who do not always compare or else they would be more competitive.

Newegg does have higher prices on some items than other retailers, but what I genreally find is that if you're buying a number of different parts, it just about always works out to be cheaper to just get everything from newegg rather than buying each part from whichever retailer offers the lowest price for that part (the shipping charges kill it), or getting all the parts together from some other retailer.

After the announced price reduction by AMD, maybe Newegg has many of the old priced chips. Do you think they will sell them at a loss? You are also not taking into account the differences in service levels and customer service. You don't always have to be the cheapest to get more business because some people base their buying decisions on more than price.

Edit: Not a newegg fanboy but a salesman who understands market pricing.

Thumbs up. Well put!

I haven't bought from any online retailers other than Newegg, but I have noticed some price discrepencies. The thing is, if you are buying multiple items, it is much easier to get them all from the same place so they are shipped at the same time and arrive all at once. Who wants to wait around with their awesome new motherboard for two days while their CPU finishes the journey to their house? I think Newegg's prices are decent on most items. If you catch it at a bad time, like with the AMD price reduction, then you will find wild fluctuations all over the net. Shipping should definitely be changed though. I can see charging five bucks for just a heatsink, but it should go down with a certain order amount or something. Handling fees should be minimal after the first item, with the rest being pure postage.

This has been happening for several months now...NE still has superior service and shipping, but prices are way out of line. ALl my orders have been from ZZF lately...their service and shipping is about 90% of what NE does and the prices are much better. IMO, prices override when cust service is about equal.

Ive had no problem with newegg, for my 3200+ 64 bit system with my EPOX board which i had to RMA, i had no problems with neweggs service. And those selections you just got there are high end processors, in addition to that AMD did announce they would be cutting prices for their processors august 1st, mabey NE just din't update there prices as fast as zipzoomfly.

NE charges a restocking fee. Regardless!!! I know they are big enough not to if you return something in 100% resalable condition.

My friend is BUY.com.
They have good prices, a lot of free shipping, and take ANYTHING back with 100% refund. When returning, if you put in that your item doesn?t work right (even if it did), buy.com pays for return shipping. You're out ZERO.

You have to make sure you really want to buy from NE, wont return it.
Its best to weigh all angles when buying, not just up front.

I still love the egg, but I'll buy from whoever has it cheaper. Their customer service is the only thing they have, though.

I quit shopping at stores when they don't compete. If newegg don't compete I will vote with my feet! (or in this case with my mouse)

At the present I am happy with them.

I think newegg is great. They seem to have better service. Also they have probably the largest selection of overall products out there. Just go see how many PC cases are on newegg. HUNDREDS. I have spent 1000s of dollars on newegg and their service is faster and less hassle free than many other online retailers. Heck with Zippy they hassled me about my credit card because the addresses supposedly didnt match with the creditor. Which THEY DID and yet they delayed my product a week. So zippy is a place i will never shop again. But monarch is great and tiger just sucks.

Overall Newegg's positives outwiegh their negatives. So newegg it is. =D

I agree with the OP, I just purchased a new computer through ZZF. I noticed while pricing out components that it would have cost me a total of $120 more to go through NewEgg then use ZZF and Monarch like I did.

The one thing NewE

I honestly have no site loyalty and I don't care!

Whereever its cheaper I am buying it , simple as that.

Granted if its withing a few dollars I might by from a more well known site but I have bought almost every peice of this PC from a diff. vendor and not one problem at all (except my mobo not being in stock for a while but that was EVERYWHERE).

Well Newegg is good about shipping too, but you can't beat free 2nd-day.

I agree if zipzoomfly has it cheaper ..free shipping is nice but if there is a shipping charge tends to be more

also many things become a wash with shipping

Newegg's default 4400+ price is $729. It has been that way since release. However, a few weeks ago when the shops all seem to have received a decent shipment from AMD, their price was down to the low $600's. When they went out of stock the price went back up to $729.

I like newegg - their interface beats even Amazon, and their prices are usually competitive. Assuming a certain level of reliability, I do typically buy based on price. But I'm usually willing to pay up to 5% more if I know the service will be far superior.

Just consider this for a second: Anytime people post links to a particular product on this forum, what website do they usually point to? Newegg is the ubiquitous mega-mall of computer parts.

I think part of the reason is also that NewEgg is one of the few stores that has a rating/review system for products, and with the amount of traffic they get, there're usually a fair amount of feedback to base a purchase on. Hell, even if I find a better price elsewhere, I still might go to NewEgg to check the product's rating before placing an order at the other place.

Keep noticing the same thing...have yet to see a one egg review...although have seen a 5 eggs and horrid review...IMO their prices arent that bad, but seem to be worse than in the past

True, but then again, have you noticed how filtered those reviews are? It's extremely rare that I ever see a negative review about anything on there, and seeing as how I'm in this business, I know for darn sure there are many people out there who are never satisified... so it's very disconcerting how biased all the reviews are. That alone made me disregard them years ago.

A non-filtered and unbiased review system would be great though.

Have you ever done a UPS/FedEx shipping price quote for these items? Just try it; do a rate quote for shipping 2 pounds in a box that's, say, 8x8x8 and see what you get.

I agree completely that it is annoying to spend almost as much or more in shipping than you do on the actual product, but that's just how much it costs to ship. Also, as someone mentioned, we have to buy packing materials and pay someone to package/ship the items. I can tell you that while shipping prices seem high sometimes, that's because they are high. Especially lately since UPS/FedEx are running such high fuel rate surcharges. My company makes $0 on shipping charges, and in fact, I usually lose money on them.

Yeah, their customer service went down the tubes. My account dead on me. i couldn't access it online. I emailed them repeatedly (+4 times) and got no responses. Tried calling them 6 times and got either busy signals or endless 'in queue' conditions. I simply gave up and moved on.

Its a darn shame that it went to pits.
