Hey guys, I actually just purchased the PS4 on sale the other day to get in on the price. Is it any good currently? I game mostly on my PS3 and some Netflix, like marathon runs of TV shows. Games I loved in the past are non FPS (use PC for that), Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Last of Us, Tomb Raider, GTA5, Sleeping Dogs, NBA 2K.

Only thing that sucks is I purchased quite a few PS3 digital games on PSN, prob keep the PS3 a around for a bit longer.

does it have games you want to play on it? does it have applications on it you will use? are there games coming out soon that you want to play on it?

if so, it is good for you. if not, it is bad for you.

See, this is where B/C comes into play for me. If it had that, i'd be all over the PS4.

Wow really? I wanted to find out if others thought the system runs good. I am asking because maybe there are good games I am not aware of some people can recommend. I like NBA 2K but that does not mean all of them are good.. sure I can try what looks good but at the expense of $60 a pop. With those useless responses, might as well not reply and just move along

I've enjoyed my PS4. I've played almost every game available on it. There's some good ones that are not exclusive so if you don't have a PC capable of playing them or an Xbox One, they are worth looking at. Shadow of Mordor is one that just released last week. Excellent title. Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is also good.

It's really hard to do that, though. Sure, others like it, but you never want to buy a subjective product based solely on the opinions of others. Like, people can tell me how amazing GTA V is until they're blue in the face, but I still won't enjoy it if I buy it.

That said, it's a LOT about the games you play. There are plenty of quality third-party titles on the PS4 (and the One, since they're almost all multi-platform). NBA, Madden, Shadow of Mordor, Wolfenstein, and Tomb Raider are just the start of the well-received multi-plats.

If you like racing, Driveclub will probably impress you, most reviews speak well of it. The PS Store is dripping with indie titles folks speak highly of. IF third-person action games intrigue you, Infamous will probably be up your alley.

I mean, I don't think you're going to find a rational gamer who's going to outright say that any console is lacking games worth playing, it's just that the big-time exclusives are a bit on the light side right now.

In the future, if you want advice on good PS4 games, maybe choose a more appropriate thread title (hey, like "Recommend me some good PS4 Games"). "Is the PS4 any good?" sounds like troll fodder and it's not surprising you got snarky replies from people who aren't sure if you're being serious or if you're just taking a dump in the forums to make everybody miserable.

Is the PS4 any good?... hmmm....

Well, the hardware is pretty good for the money.
The CPU performance is about the same as the Xbox One's, but the APU has a bit larger GPU, and there's a nice big pool of fast memory. Games tend to feel a little CPU bottlenecked (which is the same on the Xbox One), but play pretty smoothly overall. The controller is excellent. Vita remote play has too much latency, and the WiFi chip is kinda cheap....
Overall, I'm happy with what you get for the money on hardware.

The OS is in it's early stages still. It's laid out well, but there's no folders, and some basic features like DLNA are still in development. App maturity isn't so good either, with stuff like HBO Go still not available. Overall, it's a pretty horrible media player at the moment. I can make a long list of devices that are better.

First party games have been sorta crap. Killzone looked nice, but that's about the only good thing I can say. Knack was pretty lame. Infamous felt similar to previous Infamous games in a lot of ways, and still suffers from somewhat mediocre combat...

For 3rd party stuff, it's also boring. FF14 runs on the system pretty well, but you'd be better suited using a PC for that one... but, if you need to use PS4, it's fine. 3rd party AAA games run well on the system, but are starting to suffer from "parity", where devs will intentionally match performance with the Xbox One.

We'll get another wave of games here soon, for the holidays, but thus far it's been pretty darn boring on both the Xbox One and PS4 fronts....

I'd say overall my answer to "Is the PS4 good?" is:

Not yet.

I liked Killzone and I'm enjoying Drive Club but I seem to be the minority I think.
2015 going forward will probably be the real highlights of the systems gaming library. This year has been kind of meh.

Thats exactly what I got from reading reviews, nothing really specific. People seem to like the hardware and controller though. I am almost finished with The Last of Us, wouldn't mind HQ version of that and Tomb Raider since I would play it a couple times more but kinda lame since I have to rebuy it.. Walking Dead etc.

Oh, I just took another look and saw Resident Evil: Revelations 2, Uncharted 4, Until Dawn.. looks pretty good. Maybe I will keep the PS4 and just wait. Really enjoyed last gen with the games already mentioned (and as media center). PS3 was only console I kept for 5 years, had PS1 and 2 only briefly. Hopefully its the same with the PS4, once the ball starts rolling..!

Maybe you're right.. I was just asking a direct question and looking for a direct/detailed answer (thanks Fulle). By my title I meant everything about the system, games and hardware/software.

I absolutely hated Killzone. The first few maps were actually good but then everything became boring and the exact same thing over and over again. Graphics were awesome though I will say that.

The only ps4 game I am remotely interested in is silent hills. Other than that I see absolutely no need or want of one.

I don't understand why this thread exists when:

-OP already bought the console
-there's already a ps4 thread

Same here. I got it with the target deal when the ps4 released. Besides graphics the gameplay was boring. I used to collect so many console games before but now I'm benefiting from trading them in at best buy towards new titles when they slowly come out.

I may pick up evil within Tuesday and I really want to play Until Dawn. The suspense in that gameplay video really has me interested.

Well then ask "What great PS4 games can I get" and then see what the titles are.

Is the PS4 good. Sure. It's an easy question. Its small, pretty quiet cept in games. It has a better interface than the PS3 (still terrible in my opinion, but leaps better then the PS3 one). Its the most powerful console (even though that gets overblown) available now. It's lacking in software support compared to the PS3, but its also only a year into the platform. It took 7 years for the PS3 to get to where it was.

From there it's about the games. Like PB said. Ones that I recommend are Tomb Raider (though keep in mind it's followup will be at least a timed exclusive for the Xbox), Last of Us, Mordor, A:I, Wolfenstien, and well that's about it for me. I am more on story and cinematics. Not much into MP.

I think the overly huge tiles are far worse than PS3 which imo is one of the best to date. They shove monster tiles in your face, especially in the store to basically advertise. Many tiles rehash the same info that other tiles have. Click on one and see at least one of the same tiles within the one you clicked on.

Of all the interfaces, to me Steam's big screen is much better than the consoles.

Also thought Killzone was a pretty bore game. Only that and TLOU have been a disappointment so far.

Backwards compatibility would have made the Xbox One and PS4 too expensive. You have to do full hardware as the CPUs in the two newer consoles aren't fast enough to handle emulation. That's why Sony's doing it through streaming, but the price and lag remains a big issue.

The OP's original question is a bit moot since he already bought the console. Neither the PS4 or Xbox One have really come into their own though in terms of software. There are no must have games yet IMO. Destiny is the only one that comes close, but it seems to be pretty polarizing from what I've read. You either love it or hate it.

I'd argue that Forza Horizon 2 is a lot more must have than Destiny. Destiny has a mixed reception. FH2 is universally praised.

The store interface makes me want to punch babies in the face. But overall I don't avoid the PS4 like I did with the PS3, but Sony just can't design a UI to save their lives.

I agree on Steam though. Recently basically build an relatively decent Game only PC for my TV, using an xbox controller. I have liked the steam setup so much I find myself looking at games on that over the Xbone (my #2) and PS4 (my #3) even if there isn't whole lot of advantages. That is because of Big Picture and how clean and easy it is to use.
