you should go with the the emachines. i actually own one of the more recent models (the new, non crappy models)
they are fast, and read:VERY RELIABLE (left it on for almost a year, non stop, still going strong) and its not just me cause my friend owns a similar emachines and its just as robust. it also very flexible w/ upgrades.
the only thing that annoys me is the software that comes w/ it. but, if ur like me, i just did a fresh install of a clean windows xp and wham, awesome computer for a low price. the cd drives on mine are a little screwy (get stuck half way ejecting, u have to pull it out) but it works properly and i can live w/ it. my friends comp doesnt have that cd issue so all is well.
hope this helps!

if you are going to take his advice then you are a lost cause. he is nothing but a troll on these forums and im suprised he hasnt been banned.
and whats the deal if its not an intel? AMD64's blow away intel in most applications.

Yeah, eMachines have vastly improved from what they were. I think they are also more standardized than a Dell, HP, etc. Go with eMachines, they are a much better deal.

An emachines over a dell?
Dear God.
As tech who had to fix the old horrible Emachines of the past and swore every minute when doing so I have to say yes its better. Dell spends alot on case design, E-machines doesn't but they have a basic design that is ver open easy to work on and provides enough cooling for almost everything. They have been using better parts (compared to early in their history) and have stopped loading their computers with crap. Besides all of that we are talking about purchasing a refurb vs. a new computer. Yes the refurb is dell and it means something but its still a refurb and if you can get a new machine cheaper i recommend it. All things considered they are the best machines on a buget and are only beaten by more expensive dells in quality and actually sit better then a HP, Compaq, Acer, or any other cost effective machine.
