Yah, that 05 score is a giveaway, something is not working right. With a AXP 3200+ and a 6800GT @ ultra speeds I get almost 5000 (48xx) so you should be right up around there. Definitly start with the drivers, thats probably the entire problem.

Have you run any programs to determine what the speed of the card is? Maybe it's running under it's stock speed...

I don't know anything about video card settings in the BIOS besides AGP, I never touched those. Mine says 64 something or other.

Anyway to OC I used coolbits which is bascially a OC tool built into the nVidia drivers. To get to it you have to do a registry edit (see thread titled "coolbits"). One you enable it there is another tab in the drivers that allows you to change the memory and core speeds. There is even a detect optimal button that auto detects what it thinks your max OC is and tests it. My BFG 6800GT stock speeds are 370/1000 and coolbits says I can go to 432/1140, though currently I am running at 420/1100.

The overclock function is nice as it test your card at whatever setting you put it at. I underclocked my 2D core to 350 (normal GT speeds). When you look at coolbits for the first time it should say your speeds are 350/1000, if they are lower then you have an underclocked card. 6800 Ultra stock speeds are 400/1100.

As for whether or not you should overclock... well, that is a personal question. I chose to just for the fun of it even though the actual performance increase is minimal it is kinda fun to do so. If/When I feel a crunch in my game performance I will OC more to make up for it, but right now 420/1100 is doing just fine.

looks like your problem is sloved, thats a great score. set your AGP Aperature or whatever in your BIOS to either 128 256, you have 1GB of ram so that should be good.

What does the aperture setting actually do? I believe mine is set to default which is 64. I run 512x2 PC 3200

EDIT** Nevermind, I googled and read about it. I might change mine to 128 but people are saying it does not matter much

The 71.25 drivers have bugs in them... the last stable release I've tried is 67.02. They don't benchmark as high as other sets, but they produce clean graphics, so I use them.

If it sits at 60 fps, you probably have vsync enabled. It doesn't explain why it's choppy however. Is that at 1600 x 1200? Half-life2 is very CPU dependent as well.

Something is messed up. When you say in the original post "when i turn up everything", what does that mean? I had a 6800 GT that was running at 1280x1024 (the max my LCD will do) with 8xAA and 4xAF. Everything ran pretty smoothly on my P4 2.6C@3 Ghz. I upgraded from a 9800 Pro to the 6800GT and definitely noticed an improvement as the 9800 Pro was choppy in some games.

According to this review, you should be getting around 50 fps with a 3 ghz P4 and a 6800 GT in Half-Life 2 at 1600 x 1200 32bit 4xAA and 16xAF (in the review, they use a 6800 ultra).

Sounds like Vsync to me. Something else might well be amiss. Have you checked the temperatures the card is running at? Might be hitting the celing and the the card is starting to underclock it self.
