At what point is it to good to be true? He admits its stolen materials in the first paragraph.

Also one thing I noticed. He wants you to send the money via Fed-Ex. As far as a I know fedex is a private entity. If he used USPS, he can be arrested for mail fraud and the FBI/Secret Service would be involved. This wont be a problem with fed-ex since they arent US Mail. Basically you send him 800 bucks cash via fed-ex. He takes it and does nothing. It isnt mail fraud since it wasnt sent through USPS. So now you have to contact the FBI for general fraud, and 800 dollars isnt a huge scam to the FBI. Mail fraud on the other hand is investigated much more readily because there is an entire task force dedicated to mail fraud.

So...this chap is basically inviting you to buy stolen goods, by sending cash via an unprotected service. So...exactly what are you going to do if he takes your money and does nothing? Tell the Feds or whoever "I was trying to purchase some goods which I knew or believed to be stolen and the guy just took my money and didn't send me them."? Or in plain English "Hello; I've just tried to commit a felony. Please arrest me and put me in a cell with a 300lb biker called Bubba who wants to be my very special friend...". Even if the goods don't and never existed, you'd still be confessing to an inchoate offence; an attempt to commit a criminal act.

yes that seems perfectly legit. i think you should post it in hot deals forum as well

i may email him and see if i can get an addy from him. i think its clear your last communication with him would be you sending a tracking number for your cash. actually, he may send you back a fake tracking number just to keep your hopes up for some time.

"you can't cheat an honest man" OP

Someone posted a video like that. A woman wanted to buy cocaine from someone else, but the other person took the woman's money and gave nothing in return. So the woman went to the police, explained that she wanted to buy cocaine, received nothing, and that she therefore should get her money back.

The sad part is that there are a lot of people who would read "Is it really that big a deal? Chances are that 90% of the software on the computer you're using right now is "stolen". Besides, to enormous corporations really need any more money? " and think "yeah, good point!"

OP, I hope you weren't actually considering this. If anyone could figure out where this guy is, report this is his state's AG office, it would go away fairly quickly.

ok, see if he was selling the stuff for half price, maybe I would believe him. But when someone is selling something brand new worth 16K for 800 bucks, you know its some wise ass trying to scam you. I mean you have to be smart to scam, and pricing something worth 16K, for 800 isnt smart at all.

You have to wonder why, if someone did indeed jack these systems, he/she would not simply strip them for parts and sell them off in a similar fashion. One of those quadro cards alone could easily go for $800.

Bottom line- the prices are too low, even for hot items. Anyone who gets taken by this, though, deserves to lose their $$$. Moral issues about buying stolen goods aside, what fool would even think about sending $800 CASH to a complete stranger on the internet???

Reminds me of the time my parents bought a camcorder box full of newspapers off of a homeless guy for $30. . .actually, judging from the weight of it, there might have been a brick in there as well.

if he was selling that $16K equipment for $10K, I would still think its a scam.

$800 for a $16K system is retarded. If all he wanted was $800 for that, he could park his truck outside a college dorm and sell out in less than 10 minutes. I'm sure there are college kids who have $800 on them and would buy that without a thought. If they didn't have money, they wouldn't think twice before trading in their $1000 El Camino or whatever.
