NewEgg - CORSAIR MEMORY 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200-KIT Value Select

I am going to have a Abit IC7 (uses the 875 chipset) and a P4 2.6c. I want to hit 3.25 with this CPU, and most people do this by upping the FSB to around 250 (i think). Do you think this ram will fit the bill? Are there any known incompatibilities with this mobo and this ram?

Thats really hard to say, cause you dont' know what chips you are getting, samsung, Winbond, etc....Its will probably run at stock settings but I doubt your chances aren't high for overclocking with this ram.

You might want to look at Corsair XMS, Kingstong Hyper X or Mushkin high end series, but those are pretty pricey.

In the last Maximum PC issue they tested Corsair, Buffalo, Kingston Hyper X and Mushkin. Buffalo didn't even run at its advertised running speed stable. The next three ran at their advertised speed stable and overclocked decently. Of them Kingston overclocked the best. Just don't get Buffalo it's a joke!

Again, its what chips you get. I heard Winbond Buffaloe have a higher chance of overclocking. Buffaloe is popular brand in Asia.

I think Anandtech's review stated Mushkin stuff was the best, but their prices are up there.

My Buffalo PC3200 runs great @ 200MHz 5-3-3-2 (rated at 8-3-3-2.5). Dunno about bw2314's problems, or why he has to complain in every memory post about his bad experience like it happens to everyone. Every brand will have some horror stories. It's always the luck of the draw, especially with overclocking. BTW "Value Select" almost never translates to "overclocks well."

I've also got nothing but good stuff to say about Buffalo ram, Currently running it at 200mhz 11-2-2-2 @ 2.75 volts it's using Winbond CH-5 chips, max stable settings I've gotten w/ this ram w/ good timings are 229fsb 11-3-3-2 @ 2.85 volts I'm not really into extreme OCing so I just left my system at 200x11 and my memory at 200mhz and 11-2-2-2 @ 2.75 volts, I figure it will last longer that way.

I see on NewEgg, for $83 I can get a stick of Buffalo PC3200 512MB with the Winbond module NewEgg . So the winbond is the best one then right? But I heard that some type of winbond chip has issues with the intel 875 chipset...I will have to research this more. One more thing, I see there is Registered ECC buffalo ram (here:NewEgg). Should I buy this?
