Is this temp too high?

Hi

Just a quick question. I noticed that while running PRIME95's blend test, my core temps go up to a max reading of 66 celcius (According to CoreTemp and HWMonitor).

I am just wondering if this is safe? I am idling at around 49 Celcius (if I have been using PC >5 hours) .

FYI I am running 1.35V @3.2Ghz for my E6600 at the moment. Just wondering if the temps are safe or should I lower Vcore/get new cooler.

Thanks for any input.

i think up to 70C under extreme load (OCCT, Prime95 etc) is fine. As seen by coretemp, temps on core.

Well if it is stable at a lower Vcore, of course, lower it as much as possible.

Your LOAD temperature seems kind of normal to me... maybe a bit high because you blended and didn't use SMALL FFT which should stress the CPU a bit more and maybe get hotter... I assume you made sure it was using both cores at once.

The HIGH thing seemed 49C idle...yow... even with a fully warmed up PC that is quite high IMHO.... Then again if your room is like 34C ambient temperature then I guess that explains it.

Typically I'd be looking for a CPU idle under 40C in a cool to moderate room temperature.
Even on my quad I think it's more like under 35C idle in a normal room.

Work on the case ventilation / exhaust and getting more airflow over the heatsinks.

I suspect you can drop idle temps by like 9C and load temps by like 5C with some little tweaking.

If you suspect you could have done a better job with the heatsink paste application redo it if the temps bother you though I think they're borderline OK even if not as cool as desirable.

I wouldn't necessarily run it 24x7x365 at 66C+ load doing distributed computing... but for occasional use I guess it's at the upper end of what one might accept especially with a budget cooler, warm room, less than ideally vented case, or such circumstances.

@QuixiticOne

My room ambient temperature ranges from 21oC to around 26oC (sometimes the sun really gets in the room ). Opening the window is not a good option as the window is facing a street and I don't like people peeping in etc.

Sometimes I take off the side panel and blow my 9" desktop fan on the mobo and that lowers the sys temp to around 39 and cores at around 33. But you can imagine the noise

I think its the cheap water cooling that I am using. I am using Coolermaster Aquagate Mini R120 (http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-279-1.htm) and I am missing the plate that is supposed to be screwed underneath the CPU.

Case is a cheapo Aspire case like the one shown here http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/mega_sales_I/

I really regretted not doing more research before buying
