Is UNDERclocking a bad thing?

I have a PII350 in a board that only supports up to 333.
Is it bad to have this underclocked? I've noticed somtimes, during heavy usage, everything stops responding for a minute or two (except for the mouse), and then all of a sudden, it starts grinding away. I don't remember this happening before I switched out the 233 that cam in it.

here the errors are likely caused by the fact that you're running your processor on a wrong multiplier, intel chips come with multiplier locked, so yer 350 is normally 3,5x100 but now you're running on a 66 mhz fsb, which means normally it would be only 233 mhz (3.5x66), but you run it at 333 (5x66) u say so yer multiplier is 5, which is against the locked spec of the processor ... my experience with locked CPU's when run at a non supported speed is that they get wrongly identified (as a cyrix or AMD processor) this can cause all kinds of errors ...

i doubt you're getting problems from underclocking. simply changing the multiplier on an unlocked cpu or going from 100mhz FSB to 66mhz isn't going to cause any problems in my experience. perhaps the errors can be attributed to the fact that you are running an board with an intel lx chipset?.... the PII350 was produced after this and maybe slight changes were made resulting in the errors you receive. although the cpu is essentially the same as the 66mhz FSB chips (233 > 333) chip makers are constantly tweaking and changing their products. while these may not cause horrendous drastic changes perhaps they lead to problems when running out of spec like your experiencing?

Sounds like you are running on an LX (66 MHz FSB) board if it does 333 max. Are you running 3.5 x 66 = 233 MHz?

Hey everyone.
I'm at work right now, so I'll answer the questions about the config when I get home tonight. I did the OC a few years ago when I didn't really know what I was doing, so I'm not sure what the settings are at. Actually, the jumper specs printed on the mobo differ from the specs printed on the case, which differ from the specs in the book. Oy!
As far as I can remember, there is just one set of jumpers to mess around with to change the clock speed.
