Is USC's computer engineering program any good? I got into USC and into their CS & Engineering program. I have not really heard anything about USC's computer related majors, mostly about their excellent business program. Anyone currently at USC and in any CS major that can give some good advice and opinions. Thx.

I go to usc right now

I applied for business and got in as a business scholar (basically, i get into their b-school automatically).

USC EE is pretty good. There's a bunch of EE PhDs here, and a lot of 'em come from national organizations (IEEE, etc). Seeing as how in my ee101 class they jumped right into digital design and expected us to read the stuff to learn what a capacitator is and all that other good stuff, i got this feeling that ee would be quite demanding here...

as for CS, dunno too much 'bout CS program here.

This place, being a lot smaller than the other UCs, will give you lotsa attention if you so desire.

Oh...I should tell you this also: difficulty here (getting in and the classes) has been rising since 5 years ago because the average sat/gpa has gone up quite a bit (more than 100 points for the sat). I've heard from people older than me that the exams have gotten harder than what they had to go through for the equivalent course. i wouldn't be surprised if usc's rank rises a few notches within the next couple years.

since this school is quite expensive, make sure you want to do computer engineering (i have no f'in clue why they call it CECS here).

good luck in your decision.

yeah that's what i thought too until they rejected me. my SAT/SAT 2 and GPA were pretty much the average to get in, and my essay was ok as well.

hope you don't get screwed in the admission process there.

everybody and their mother is in IEEE, you just sign a paper and pay dues. And i would hope a university would have phd teaching on campus. I got a full ride to USC for Computer Engineering but didnt take it because their program wasnt very good.

yep. undergrad isn't too fantastic here. grad school engineering at sc is pretty good though.

we'll i guess USC isn't looking like a very good option right now. It costs significantly more than the UC schools, and the program isn't as good. I will definitely be going to one of the UC schools, just a matter of which ones I get into. If I can get either UCLA or UCB, i will be very happy.

I was in CE/CS for a year here at USC. It sucked balls. But then again I hated programming.

THe EE school is MUCH better than the CSCI school, in terms of curriculum and teaching. But I'd recommend you go somewhere else like UCI or UCLA if you're hellbent on engineering. USC is good for business, law, dental, psych, social work, or communications.

I'm in the CS program right now at USC....it kinda depends what you're looking for. The CS school is sort of bastard child of the Engr. program (it seems like that didn't know if it should be in liberal arts or not) since CS majors have to take foreign languages while no other engineers do. The nice thing about the CS program is because of the Cinema school there a lot of interactive multimedia classes you can take. So I guess it depends if you're looking for a pure engineering or something more with creative technologies (there's some engineering minors like "Creative Multimedia Technologies" etc.)

Hope this helps!
