I just tried the locate last night and today and says no device found.

You can make it alert you when the devices found. It will send you an email message.

Make sure you change the email password so the message does not appear on the stolen device.

well I went in cloud and lock it. Don't know if it's a good move or not. I also included in the message "stolen iPhone police notified"

Hmmmm....
From the point of view of someone who works in a high school,
What the hell were kids doing in the locker room unsupervised? There should be NO ONE in the locker rooms except at the beginning & end of gym periods - when there would be a lot of kids in the locker rooms.

Does your daughter's school just allow the kids to roam freely??

Additionally, no cameras at the school? Not necessarily inside the locker room, but our halls outside the locker rooms have video cameras - no one enters or exits the locker rooms without being seen. Apparently, your daughter's school doesn't give a shit about the security and safety of the students. (Bring this up at a board meeting.)

edit: small claims, against the school, for not maintaining a safe environment? Students should not be unsupervised in a school.

Thief will never be busted now. If there was no PIN and the theif was using it, then this is a wasted opportunity.

Well, if it was already locked with a PIN, you probably would have never located it anyway. It might never connect to a WiFi network or display the message.

Dident they just come out with a Iphone thats water proof? You can stash it in a bowl of water, when the thief comes along an comes across it, they'll think it short circut by that time. XD

I don't know the ins and out of schiool so I had my daughter reponse to this. Thanks for the small claims suggestion I might pursue that route
As the PE teachers announce for everyone to leave they do not check that everyone has left. They lock the doors to where nobody can get in but you can leave. Also the PE teachers don't take roll infill about 8-10 mins after they lock the doors.

When I tested it a couple years ago it did not. When its wiped it shows a different device on the cloud. I had a phone I gave my Wife showing up as mine and hers in icloud because I didn't remove it from my device list after I wiped it and restored it with her data. On my icloud it would say not found etc.

I was under the impression that if the thief wipes it then it won't show up on cloud .

Status there will not update unless the device with that UDID+iCloud account connects to the Internet. Since the thief had to wipe the iPod in order to use it, the iPod no longer has your iCloud account.

Funny story. I frequently used to drive my bike to the mall where they had a video arcade. I had a nice cable and trusty lock wrapped around the seat post at all times. The problem was that I was a lazy little brat, and seldom locked it up, including in the bike rack at the mall. One day, my stars were a little crossed and that bike began providing rides to someone with just a few less scruples than me. A frantic scouring of the rack and a few orbits of the mall left my stomach somewhere South of my ankle; and I had a long walk ahead of me. Suddenly every bike was candy-apple red, and every passing car was my mom pulling up to give me a ride in her brown '74 Chevy Guilt-wagon. I don't think my head has ever raced as fast as that since. With my heart sinking and every step becoming heavier, I spotted the colorful neon sign for the store where only a few weeks earlier I had grown intoxicated by the scent of fresh rubber and WD-40, the glint of chrome, and the subtle sounds of bike parts rubbing against each other, and now a burst of epiphany, a symphony in one quiet note. I stopped in and purchased a new cable and lock, sacrificing weeks of Star Castle and Galaxian. When I got home, I had to creep into the garage for a hack saw, then sneak off and saw up my new cable.

When I appeared in the front doorway about an hour later (son of a bitch cable!) with tears streaming down my face it was all cooing and comforting, though I think my parents were puzzled by my choice of a completely different brand of bike only available at a store way across town, when I had so dearly loved that Mongoose. Kids...

Did you file a police report and report it to school authorities?
Was it purchased with a cc that offers purchase protection ?

One would need a bolt cutter to break a combination lock or the actual combination. I would pursue this with the authorities as there is a thief in that school.

Soda can jimmy works, I did it once on these locks my brother had locked together to his backpack, but then forgot the combination on.

I think to combat this type of theft we should setup camera's in all girls locker rooms for now on.

I have meant to mention this to you before, but every time I see your avatar out of the corner of my eye, for a second, I see a long-bearded wizard in a tall pointy hat. What is this devilry!?!?
I'm putting a hex on you...."Come get a high interest loan...."

My 14yo daughter iTouch 4g she got for Xmas was stolen at her high school. The curious part of the ordeal was it happened in the girls locker room. She said someone broker her combination master lock and took the iTouch and the lock. She is so bummed and could not sleep all night. I told her hope she learns her lesson that there are thieves ou there.

Anyway I can track her iTouch? .

I hate thieves

Go to icloud.com and login using her login info. From there, remotely lock the ipod and then put a message on it and put a password on it that only tou or yoir daughter would know. If you don't get it back, at least youll know that they can't do anything with it

Find my iDevice should technically work with the iPod Touch, but if you haven't set it up beforehand then it's too late. Even then, it's really meant for cellular devices such as the iPhone and cellular-enabled iPads, as without an always-on data connection and GPS the service isn't particularly useful (and a smart thief will wipe the phone).

The first rule of school lockers: nothing is safe. They're trivial to break into, and much like a lock on a car door it's only meant to discourage casual theft.

If it is ever connected to the internet it will show last known location...
