Sources: Nuggets, Pistons working to finalize Iverson trade

The Denver Nuggets are expected to trade Allen Iverson to the Detroit Pistons for Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess, Pistons team sources told ESPN's Stephen A. Smith.

The deal has not been finalized.

This would be the second time Iverson has been traded in two years. He was dealt by Philadelphia to Denver in December 2006, kicked out of Philly over irreconcilable differences as part of a package that brought Andre Miller to the 76ers.

McDyess is an awesome bench player, and Billups is a much better leader then AI. I could see maybe Billups for AI, but to give them McDyess for free? I mean come on

Yea I see AI's contract is up after this year, but screw that. If Detroit was gonna move one of their starters, it should have been Rasheed instead of Billups...

There is a rumor that McDyess was just added to match salaries and he will be waived and then picked back up by Detroit. So it's basically Billups for Iverson.

Wow what a steal for the Nuggets....I've liked AI in the past but Chauncey is too good a PG and McDyess too consistent of a contributor to give them both up.

My gut reaction was WTF Detroit? But now that I think about it, I think it makes sense for Detroit. They've been stuck in a rut in the playoffs for the past couple of years and maybe this shake up is just what they need. Billups was important, and he's been clutch in the past, but I think he hasn't been performing up to spec in the playoffs. The team's offense has been stagnant at times and Billups was unable to get the offense going. Granted part of that may have been due to the players not running the play, but whatever the case the offense needs spark. I think Iverson can provide that spark. And if it doesn't work out his contract expires in a year and we can sign someone else. We've also got Stuckey who is developing into a quality point guard.

In hindsight, maybe the Nugs won't suck too bad.

Apparently, McDeezy is going to be waived and picked back up by the Pistons.

i love the deal for the Pistons. an infusion of new blood was necessary.

AI is off the books next season, freeing up a lot of cap space for Detroit. also, Dice is slated to come back, so it'll essentially be a PG swap.

What's our starting 5 going to be? Stuckey, AI and Rip amount to a very small starting squad. This deal doesn't have me too hopeful, but I'm not really too negative about it either. It just comes down to whether or not they can play together and win down the stretch. It sure will be interesting though, see mighty mouse in a Pistons jersey.

I actually think this deal benefits BOTH the Nuggets and Pistons. AI in a Pistons' jersey for some reason seems right.
