Jammed ignition

97 Honda Civic ignition won't turn without a good 2 minutes of jimmying. Had been working fine. Just started acting up. Might be the key. Key works to unlock doors. Got a new key made. New key has same problem but also won't unlock driver side door. Ideas? Thanks.

You get your "new" key from dealership or locksmith.

Locksmith keys to newer cars are the bad.

Other than that if the new "official" key doesn't fix it could need a new ignition, something might not be working in it anymore or have gotten in it. They are not usually cheap though.

The lock cylinder may be going bad. It's not a big deal to change, but the part itself can get pricey sometimes depending on the car.

Graphite powder spray, for the door locks, I don't know if it would be safe to use it on the ignition though.

You can try spraying some graphite lubricant in there. If it's just sticky that will help, but if something is going bad inside then you'll still need to replace it eventually.

What about removing the cylinder to take it to a locksmith? Do I need an extractor pick for that?
