Agreed. He retired in 1992, so most people under 20 most likely doesn't know who he is. That's like 25% of the people on AT.
But just because you're young doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't know who people are. I mean, I just assume that everyone knows who Groucho Marx was, who Bob Hope was, who Ronald Reagan was, who Marilyn Monroe was... so it's just weird that people don't know who Johnny Carson was.

well knowing and it affecting you in any way at all are different things.
for many of us that didnt grow up watching him.. or just didn't watch late night until way after 92..he really is just another famous person.
impact for much of atot would be bigger if it were leno or conan.
