Johnny Carson passed away

..I watched Carson all thru the 70's,80's and his last show in the early 90's. I liked it best when it was 90 min. but still good when it went to 60 min. The spontaneity and improvisation of his show is what made it so much fun to watch..and is unmatched to this day..I recall his interviews with John Wayne..Clint Eastwood..Dean Martin..anybody remember Dick Shawn?? He was there too. Even Arnold Sch. Carl Sagen was on a bunch of times. Phillis Diller..Tote Fields..Joan Rivers..Fay Dunaway..who could forget the show stopping performances of Sammy Davis..Buddy Rich..Gregory Hines..the endless comedy skits and parodies. I stopped watching the Tonight Show when Carson left..the Lennos and the Lettermans and so on never measured up..empty suits at best..Carson was original and genuine and a natural. I suspect most of his depth came from his years with Red Skelton where he worked as one of Red's commedy writers. But he will be missed and it may be decades before another generation is gifted with a talent that great..I only wish he did more in his retirement years..Rest In Peace Johnny

Agreed. He retired in 1992, so most people under 20 most likely doesn't know who he is. That's like 25% of the people on AT.

But just because you're young doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't know who people are. I mean, I just assume that everyone knows who Groucho Marx was, who Bob Hope was, who Ronald Reagan was, who Marilyn Monroe was... so it's just weird that people don't know who Johnny Carson was.

At the same time, it doesn't mean that you're stupid if you don't know... just ignorant I guess. Too much World of Warcraft maybe.

well knowing and it affecting you in any way at all are different things.

for many of us that didnt grow up watching him.. or just didn't watch late night until way after 92..he really is just another famous person.

impact for much of atot would be bigger if it were leno or conan.
