Also, nice car OP. Got any interior pics?

Just one. Both of these were taken with my phone at the dealership, so not the highest quality. I've swapped out the cloth floor mats for the rubber honeycomb ones. I had rubber ones in my truck and loved them. Being able to get them wet and muddy and just spray them off is excellent.

Eh different strokes for different folks. It's not a pavement shredder like a Mazda 3 Speed or an SRT-4 or Cobalt SS. But for it's price, it's a very well balanced blend of comfort, fun, refinement and economy. It'll run sub 7 second 0-60 stock and still pull over 30MPG on the highway.

a quick ECU chip mod will take care of that no problem

300 lb/ft at the wheels, just from a stage 1 tune... Yes please (I still haven't gotten a tune either )

WTF is that all about? It's like the stock tune was intentionally nerfed for the sole purpose of making a straight line on a dyno Is that how makers are getting "flat torque curves" on turbo engines, by lopping off the higher RPM power so it's the same as the low end and then bragging that it has a flat torque curve like a bigger engine? :\:hmm:

It doesn't matter if it's flat, so long as it's broad and useable and still more than the competing engine at any RPM. Yeah 200 @ 2K <--> 200 @ 7K is better than 1 @ 5K <--> 300 @ 7K, but 200 @ 2K <--> 300 @ 7K is still better than both regardless of not being a "flat torque curve".

Most new factory turbo cars do that. In testing, the manufacturers have found that most people don't like to feel the turbo taper off at the end, so they lop off the top of the curve and make the power flat and predictable. This also means the turbo is never being pushed to hard and is better for longevity/emissions.

Taper off? A "properly" built turbo car spools good and makes useable power low to mid as it starts to spool half way then tapers UP and goes vertical about midway through the tach at peak boost :awe:

A real turbo engine doesn't make you feel totally in the dark when you just need a little passing power, but at the same time should make you scared to go past 4K where your horsepower doubles in the span of 500 RPM Screw "most people" I like feeling that kind of taper.

The one thing I really miss about my GLi was the steering wheel. I loved the shape and quality of it. ^_^

I actually kind of like turbo lag. No power, no power, neck snaps back. I find it invigorating and can't wait to go BT.

Yeah, that taper is a byproduct of the K03 turbo. The first time I saw one I was absolutely amazed by how small the damn thing is.

Also, from your previous comment. It is increasingly obvious that VW just wanted to flatten the power curve when you look at the boost requested. A full Vag-com log of the requested boost shows that the tune basically stops asking for as much air at a certain point. Thats exactly why an aftermarket tune is so great on these cars.

Also kind of surprising that VW advertises 207 lb-ft at the crank despite the fact that most actually make 205 at the wheels; underrated anyone?

Nice car OP. How much did it set you back?

Thanks to USAA I was able to get it for a bit more than a grand below invoice. That plus I somehow got $4k for my 8 year old 100k mile B3000, so I walked out paying around $21k. Didn't do too bad. This was the first car I bought myself so I was a bit nervous dealing with the dealers but USAA let's you print out a pre-agreed price for 3 dealers in your area, just walk in with the sheet and tell them this is what their dealership agreed to. Pretty painless.

Picked mine up a couple of weeks ago. Carbon Steel Gray Metallic, 6-MT. Best clutch I had ever come across.

The APR Stage I seems very intriguing. However, I'm digging the fuel efficiency of the stock tune--I'm getting 33 mpg on regular driving (considerably less when I'm having fun).

The GTI is a great bang for buck car...not cheap, but there is a lot offered.

As many that own them I know say "there is more to a car than 0-60"....

I had a 97 GTI VR6 new...my brother picked up a GTI AE and then sold it in about a year for a Porsche 996. About 2 years later he sold that and went back to a GTI again.

Most of the guys I know had Porsches, Vettes, etc...they really like the GTI's and the R32's.

I will be getting my wife a 4 door one probably in July. I am looking at a Charger SRT8 myself...maybe the Jeep SRT8.

The new VW front end looks amazing

I think that they look great from the front and the back also. I want to get a mk6 GTi, but will probably wait a while for a CPO model. Congrats and enjoy it, you got a good deal too!

My fuel efficiency (and others online as well..) went up about 2MPG after a tune as long as you drive the right way.

About this, when I had my GTI I got like 1.5 MPG more if I drove it right.

Keyword being if, and no, I never drove it right after I tuned it.

Dude stop being modest, we all know what you really got was the turbo 911 parked next to it,

Nice choice, glad you're happy.

That's actually why I bought it. I was worried that there were some folks on here that were a bit ambivalent towards me. This should fix everything.

I will probably wind up getting the stage 1 tune at some point but for right now the car has plenty of power. The only thing that is bothering me is media browsing through the touchscreen isn't all that great. Navigating folders is cumbersome and you can't use the steering wheel controls for going through folders, just from track to track.

Mind putting up a Youtube video of it? I always wondered what the navi looked like.
