Indeed you are. A stunning RPG with a great story.

It's a good idea to play the first one before the second, but it's not required.

I hope you like it, everyone went nuts over the first one and i could never get past the first few hours. To many dumb fetch quests with running back and forth and no fast travel, i also didnt like the combat system.

Hopefully though you will like it most people seem to.

You know; in many ways witcher 2 is like an fps; I mean it is a true rpg with lots of action and a decent story but it is not a classical rpg like bg2 or witcher 8. I only mention this because someone who really likes fps will probably like iwtcher 2 but not necessarily traditional rpg.

There's no fast travel in Witcher 2 either.

CDP makes more hard core RPGs.

Been playing for a couple hours, and its OK but to be honest, its really testing my patience. I'm running all over some stupid town thats built like a rat maze and I need to find a way to some back alley or something. Theres a locked door and I might need to look all over for a stupid key etc. God this sucks. Exactly why I don't play RPG games.
Not to mention the overwelming variety of spells, potions etc to learn and craft and harvest and blah blah blah. Jesus christ someone give me a damn gun and ditch this stupid sword. Time for some BF3.

To each his own. Runz has no patience with RPG's, doesn't care about the quests or story; mainly enjoys FPS's. Me, I love exploring, taking in the scenery, following quests and enjoying the character development. I also play FPS's...Crysis, Halo 1... I also like a mix of both, such as Oblivion (playing as a fighter), Mass Effect, Deus Ex., Max Payne (1 and 2) et al.

I might enjoy them if I had endless hours of free time to screw around and take my time playing, but I simply don't. I need something that can be played and provide a satisfying experience in short order. If I didn't have a kid, a wife, a job, commitments 3 nights a week, time for occasional excercise, dinner, laundry and time for sleep then I might have time to enjoy a nice, slow, story driven RPG. I'm not saying I couldn't play in the little time I do have, but i'd rather play something that I can "win" at (BF3) or get some fast action while a story unfolds while keeping the gameplay pretty simple (Far Cry 3).
But when it comes to this super deep, involved crafting, looting, spell making magic stuff, I just don't have the patience. "get lost in this city for an hour while searching for a key to open this door, then maybe you can play the game" = no thanks.

As I said, you have to enjoy gaming as it fits your lifestyle. I an semi retired (I substitute teach), so I play on the weekends when I have time. I don't mind playing one game for months and then on to the next. No rush to finish, no incentive to play the "latest and greatest" just because it is touted as the latest and greatest. I choose my games and I think I play the best (for me) of what's out there. So don't feel that you are missing something by not getting into RPG"s. In the scheme of things, just not that important. Play games you enjoy when you have the time to play them.

Honestly, and I might catch hell for this, but I found The Witcher 2 to be rather..blah. Bought on sale on STEAM after hearing so many glowing things about it.

I simply didn't care much for the characters, I hated the combat, and because of those two things, I didn't really get too far in to where the overarching story made me want to keep playing.
The "mature" style didn't do anything for me either.

There isn't a key, you really just need to make your way to the back alleys and go down into the sewers to get where you need to go. If I recall correctly, there is a place where you can break through some boards to get there with an Aard (IIRC) spell in one of the alleys.

I tried to play the game, but the controls (much like Drakensang) ruined the game for me. It felt clunky, slow, awkward. I uninstalled it about 15 minutes later and never looked back. Too bad too, because I wanted to enjoy the game.

Makes sense. BUt it's interesting because Witcher 2 is really fast paced and more of an action adventure game in a lot of ways.

I'm kind of curious just what your response would be with a true RPG.

I bought the game on sale, for less than 10.00 if I recall correctly. Glad I did not spend more.

I really liked most of the game I have played so far. I mean all the stuff you talked about, spells, crafting, pathfinding, etc are part of an RPG. The thing that frustrates me about the game is the quick time events. Just seems so out of place to be fighting with spells or swords, and suddenly up pops a sequence of button presses. Not to mention that I suck terribly at them. I mean I could not even melee dogs in COD by smashing E over and over again. So I am very reluctant to put any more time into the game because I am almost sure eventually I will be stuck because of the QTEs. And yes, I am playing with the difficult QTEs turned off.

I realize they are trying to make the game "hardcore" but I really would like to be able to finish the game, and I dont think I can, even on "easy" setting. (yea, I know I suck)

The Quick Time Events are rare in the game. There are less than a half dozen required QTEs in the game that I remember. Mostly they only show up in optional mini-games to make money outside of the standard way of quests and selling loot.

The Witcher 2 is a great game. I have it for the Xbox and PC. It is good for a couple playthroughs due to its split story line. What I liked most about it was the fact its combat system was different than many RPGs and the story was great.

I loved Witcher 2 and had a great time playing through it. I played through it a few times now and still enjoy it. Well worth the price.
