After reading all the great things about this from these boards and playing around with a i600m, I finally took the plunge and got a T40 237392U. I must say, wow, battery life is amazing. I got the 9-cell battery, the one that sticks a bit out from the back, and im so glad I got it. I barely notice or find any problem with it sticking out from the back. I ran it today doing things such as installing 2 games, couple restarts, using wireless internet to browse the net, listening to music in wimamp from files on my other comp in the network. Also I was downloading things all day and moving the laptop around to test wireless at the same time. I started at 2 oclock today and im writing this at 8:10 tonight. Went through an entire day doing all this without even moving away from the computer and got over 6 hours which im pretty impressed with. I remember trying to do this with my i600m and never got near this type of battery life.
So far im loving the design of the latop. It's thin, light, and I think it looks great. One my main concerns was the heat and during the entire day of playing around with it, it barely got warm. The top side where the keyboard armwrest is remained completely cool. Theo only part that got even slightly warm was the bottom of the laptop near the left side and even then I could barely notice it. The fan was pumping out cool air all day and im quite happy with it so far.
Im trying out Everquest right now. The system runs it really good, better than I was expecting. This game is pretty memory, cpu, graphic intensive during raids and so far its running it really well. I noticed when I played the game the laptop goes get warm underneath but not enough to conern me or bother me all that much.
So far im loving the think light and tried it in a dark room and found it really nice. Also, the utilities that come with this allow you to turn on and turn off almost all the pieces of equipment in the system which I found nice. The thing I like about the utilities on this system is they don't seem to bog the system down but when I had the i600m, it came with stuff that noticebly lowered the system performance.
I've read hear and heard about people having problems with noises when the AC adaptor is pluged in. Mines plugged in right now and I'm not hearing any noise whatsoever even with my ear to the notebook.
So far im just very happy and relieved that this notebook is build so damn good. I tried pushing really hard from the back of the screen and can't even get the lcd to show any distortion. When I tried this with the 600m, if I simply touched it a bit a ripple would appear. Also when moving the screen up and down no distortion appeared in the lcd either.
All I can really say is this system is amazing. I got it through an employee I knew at IBM but even if I had to pay more I would easily do it. My only question is what's the best way to clean the screen. I accidently touched it and now there is a small smudge from my hands so what's the best way to clean it? Btw, no dead pixels or anything =). Just want to say thanks to everyone for posting saying how wonderful this notebook is, I am now a firm believer too =D.
