As the title says, i just purchased and installed a Saphire X1800XT (replacing my 7900GT that took a crap on me) and im loving it.

I would just like some reccomendations on what program(s) ATI users favor for overclocking and/or temperature reporting (besides ATI Overdrive and ATI Tool)???

And also, how come my Core clock shows up as 593Mhz and my Memory clock shows 693Mhz (1400Mhz) in ATI Overdrive?
Isnt factory default supposed to be 650/1500Mhz?

Is there any way to disable ATI Overdrive once its been unlocked?
And how come my current Core and Memory speeds are below the default speeds of the card?

1) As in "re-lock" it? I haven't seen one. Disable the ATI services. Run "services.msc" and disable the two ATI programs listed.
2) Who knows and what does it matter?

ok to answer all of ur questions at once.
ATItool has everything u need inside it, including voltage adjustments, which are done in software with ATI, instead of hardware like nVidia.

Secondly ur clocks are shown as that cuz that is the 2d clock speed of all x1800xt's. when u open a game they ramp up to 650/1500. lemme know if ya have any other questions.

yep sure can via atitool
had my old one running at 800/1650 with slightly higher core volts on stock cooling all via atitool.

for temprature reporting and other stuff info (fan speed, clocks) you should use ati tray tool's OSD function..

I am glad you asked these questions! I was wondering the same things. I just sold my 7800GT and bought an X1800XT. Overclocking with ATI is a lot diffrent than with Nvidia. Not nearly as user friendly.

How? It works the same for both - you just adjust the sliders and the clocks are set. And you can adjust voltages in software on the X1800 - you don't need to physically solder wires to your card like on Nvidia's.

On the contrary. I had to do tricky (and expensive) voltmods to my 7800GTs to get them to oc decently. My X1900XT has been a piece of cake comparatively because of the ability to do software voltage adjustments.

Thanks for all the help.
I am just a little turned off by ATI Tool because i dont know how to set up a profile.........but the link that was provided in the second post seems easy enough to follow. Will give it a shot tomorrow.

Don?t get me wrong. I love my X1800XT! It just takes getting used to after having an Nvidia card for so long. With my 7800 all I had to do was download Extreme-G drivers and hit clock freq in the driver panel.
With ATI I have had to mess with the CCC, ATI tool and tray tools but, I am figuring it out and once I do it should be a snap. However, so far with even just a little OC on the core will result in artifacts so I got some more work to do.

You do know that you can install the bare Catalyst driver and not bother with CCC don't you? Just select custom install.

Once done, install ATI Tray Tools and there you have it, all AA + AF tweaking WITHOUT using the bloated CCC.

mancunian,
Thanks for that tip about the CCC! I uninstalled it and have everything working through the tray tools. Thats awsome!

You're welcome.

ATI Tray Tools can do the lot for you, AA + AF, overclock, fan speeds, etc.

No need at all to bother with CCC.

Actually I don't think it can overclock the X1 cards. You have to use another program for that, like ATI Tool or Rivatuner.

Ah, that may be true. I run an X800 series of card, so would not know that.

Cheers for pointing it out.

Grab Catalyst 6.6, Chuck Patch, ATi Tray Tools (for control), ATi Tool (for overclocking) and let that baby fly.

Mine is currently running at 720/900 24/7 on air. B)

I have an X1800XL and use AtiTrayTools, and it overclocks the card for me wonderfully.

Not quite true. All X18/9 series cards support software voltage adjustments.

The X13/6 do not.
