I was just going to mention that if a dog were burned up alive, I don't imagine people would joke and smile about it. OP, that's terrible, I hope your parents are able to get over it quickly.

Sorry to hear about the loss, rikadik. A fire like that is one of our biggest fears on our farm. As far as insurance covering it, they can be very picky, depending on whether or not hay was stored in the barn. This is the time of the year when a lot of farms wind up with fires caused by spontaneous combustion of hay. (If the hay has too much moisture in it.) Once the hay gets above a certain temperature, the reaction can sustain itself & the hay continues to heat up. After a certain point, ignition is inevitable. I just put up a few hundred bales of hay the other day & monitored the loft constantly to make sure that the hay wasn't going to start heating up.

Areacode pretty much summed up the costs of owning a horse, (although I only pay $2 per bale, rather than the $3 to $18)

That really sucks.

Obviously there's less horse lovers around here than there are actual horses' @sses.

Wow that is brutal. I have a coworker who has horses, and like any other pets, they really are part of the family and you get very attached to them. That is a horrible way to go as well. Horses get scared easily, I can only imagine how terrified that must of been for them and how much trauma they went through before dying.

Cleaning that up will be a sad task as well once they find the remains.

Hopefully the posters here who find this situation humorous will DIAF.

I blame the horses when that happens.

Oh my god, that is horrible! What a terrible way to die, especially for such sensitive animals! I can only imagine how terrified they must have been.

If that happened to any of my folks' horses, especially my bratty little arab, it would take me months to get over it. I can't even begin to think how your parents must feel. My sincere condolences. What an awful loss.

A lot - plus a good horse can run into the tens of thousands (or more) in value.

I your parents are well off enough to own a horse, a pony, and their own stable, then they will be fine.

Sorry, but people with horses always seem like the most stuck up people. Maybe I just have had many bad experiences?

Actually imagining a horse burning to death is sad though. They are beautiful animals.

Sorry, OP. Neigh, say it isn't true!

I bet the horse was stuck in the stable and couldn't run straight out. Everytime it took two steps forward, it had to move one step to the side.

What? That's unusual. Why would someone hate horses? I'm failry indifferent to animals. Of all the animals to hate, why would you hate horses? That's really weird, dude.

If you're well off enough to own a computer, pay for internet access, cell phone, car and rent, you'll be fine when somebody steals your car. Because you can afford it, right?

I'm sorry for your parents loss. I recommend you try and call your mom anyway. Even if she's too upset to talk to you, at least she'll know you called. Most of ATOT has an abiding belief that animals are some how irrelevant, dirty and, unnecessary to human survival other than as steaks. Most of ATOT are idiots.

Yeah, no kidding. If this was somebody's dog there'd be far fewer caustic replies.

nope... if it were a dog, i'd be telling him to watch out for the korean neighbors, and to get some lysol stat.... burnt doggie hair stinks!

its an animal... i cant get attached over something that doesnt speak english... something that pisses and shits all over and doesnt wipe its own ass... something that costs thousands of dollars in 'vet bills' for a sneeze.

is it truly hard to believe people dont like pets?

I'm sorry to hear that. Horses are a large financial and emotional investment. Hopefully your mom can recover, and continue with her dreams.
