eVGA 680i MB - $240
Corsair TWIN2X2028-6400C4 2GB DDR2-800 Ram - $218AR
Core 2 Duo E6300 - $187 --> Will upgrade to a Quad-Core once April price drop hits.
150GB Raptor - $189AR
eVGA 7600GT - $99AR --> Will add a 8800GTX once the refresh is out and prices drop.
Vista Ultimate OEM - $199
CoolerMaster Stacker 810 - $160
Antec Trio 650watt PS - $60AR

PS - You got hosed on the GB/$ ratio.

Yeah, I know those raptors are expensive, but I've been running the 74GB version for about 3 years on my XP machine and I love it. Fast, fast, fast.... I've got 3 other drives laying around here too I'm gonna use, so space isn't an issue.

Take a second look at how big you said that drive was

I am still using the 36gb version of the raptor here!

Just have a Seagate 350GB for everything but the Operating System and Essential programs.

Money isn't really an issue if he's going to upgrade to an 8800 and buy a quad core in a few months

Doesn't Vista have problems with gaming? And what about drivers? I _really_ wouldn't buy it at this point.

As with all Microsoft products I prefer to wait a few months, or longer, after they release anything but aside from that looks like a nice build.

QuadCore...

I have the same setup almost.
Two 36gb raptors and 1 seagate 250

serves me nicely

I've been testing it for a while now. Most of the apps I need work fine and it seems pretty stable so far. I'm also going to keep a HD with XP installed on it too, so I can use that if I have problems with any individual programs.

Besides, I'm just a sucker for that new interface...

You sacrifice capacity for speed when buying a RAPTOR. Think Extreeme Ram, it's fast but it costs more per MB. 30GB HDD is enough for xp and several dozen programs with 20GB to spare. Until recently, Most laptops came with 30-40GB HDD's and Windows XP (2GB Installation).

My 36gb Raptor was not purchased for storage. OS It's for and scratch disk functions. I edit a lot of audio and the Raptor is noticeably faster than my SATA or IDE drives. Screen refresh and the actual edits are faster. I'll never go back.

Next build, I'd like to RAID two of them together for more speed!

So if youre reselling the card in a few months, you have to have a sh!tty one?

Even if his current budget was unlimited, i wouldnt have vista now for a gaming machine.

I'm not going to sell the card. I'm eventually going to be running 3 monitors (24" LCD + 17" LCD + HDTV) so I'll need 2 cards anyway. The 7600GT will be good enough for me until prices drop on the current G80 series (which should be fairly soon). I didn't want to load up on the video card if it's just going to end up powering my 17" LCD.

Also, I love all the Vista bashers out there. Everybody bitchin' and moanin' about how slower it is in games. Funny thing is, people said the EXACT SAME THING when XP came out. "Oh dude, I'm never switchin' to XP... Win98 4-evar!!!!" Yeah right, how long did that last? Sure, it may be a few FPS slower but I'll trade those for the Vista benefits anyday. And the second Crysis comes out 99% of the people on this board will switch to Vista...

The slower FPS in vista is only because nvidia and ati don't have optimal drivers yet.

Don't listen to the vista bashers... it will work perfectly fine! And you are right... how many people bashed XP when it came out? And how many love it sooo much now they can't switch off it? People are suckers for wanting to be "cool."

But just so I don't lose my "coolness" I will end with...

We are off of Sony bashing now, and are back onto "M$" bashing!!!! Dood, get with the times!!!11!!one!!
