watched the movie with subtitles/captions on, if i watched it with them off, are the translations for the foreign languages and signing not supposed to be there? i got translations for most of what was going on.

I didn't have any translations what-so-ever... was I supposed to?

I found the movie difficult to follow, but not impossible.

The movie sucked! Amores Perros was way better. Same exact idea was used for Babel, it was just utterly hosed.

Babel didn't suck, but I liked both Amores Perros and 21 Grams a lot better. 21 Grams was the best of the trilogy, IMO.

It sucks because it take him 3 hours to communicate a simple idea. Its long and exhaustive. Its NOT thrilling or entertaining in anyway.

A movie should be entertaining + communicative of what the director want to paint/say/communicate. This movie SUCKS as an entertainment piece.

Yeah.. and? An entertainment piece? Who are YOU to say what a movie should be anyway? You think Babel is the first movie in history to be presented like this? News Flash: This movie is very similar to Crash and Crash WON Best Picture last year. Leave the theories on how movies should be made to the professionals, just because you don't like a movie with deep character development and open-ended plot lines doesn't mean it "SUCKS".

This is how the director does things apparently, it's up to you to appreciate it or not, regardless of if you like it. There are plenty of movies I don't like because of their style/format but still recognize them as a good work. Why does a movie have to be "thrilling" to be good? Aren't you tired of these bland, predictable, cookie-cutter movies with no redeeming value? Tell me what you consider to be an 'entertainment piece' so I can paint a picture of what you consider to be good.

Any thrillers where I have to guess what happen next is a good movie to me. Yup, I'm tired of bland, predictable, cookie-cutter like this one. This movie sport the exact format like Syriana- scattered plots that bring together everything at the end. I thought Syriana was ok at best. This was just plain BORING. Why? It was slow. I was not entertained. Was I thrill to see what happen to the boys who shot someone? No. Was I thrill to see why the Japanese hunter's daughter can't blend into the rest of the world because she is mule- which had little or no tie to the rest of the story except that its just another example of miscommunication.

Who am I to say? I watch movie and I pay my time and money to do so. These directors make movie because of me- the guy who pay for their work. What? You think directors and actors don't get pay? Why? Do you have to be on the academy to judge a movie? Professional critics pay as much as I do to see a movie- and they get pay for judging- so how can you tell they are not basis?

So what? Now I'm not allow to have my own opinions? Look thru the thread. I explain why I exactly don't like the movie.

One of my favorite is Gladiator...I also like the Departed because I like the original work- Infernal Affair- which is a better film.

Just saw this last night (and the The Departed over the weekend)

I think the Jap girl going to jump and a shot/close up of her fall from above when the cop when outside... no... really doesn't make sense to me. Why no more Q from the cop that get different answer from the girl and father accont for the death of mother. (Jap girl lie... why...)
There is nothing about Pitt try to find the kids/kids found... may be its cut because too long.

but all in all. good film.

Much enjoyable than "The Departed" (Seriously, "The Infernal affair" much better that it. The acting / modding of characters... there are 4 equal characters in "The Infernal affair" and the role of "Captain Queenan" has much stronger line, interaction there... between him and the "Costello" .... and especially the ending, "Matt" live on but "Leonardo" died)

that's too bad that you guys are so hard on it. I have to say, the story about the Japanese girl alone was so touching and intimate to me - made me wanna go find someone unlikely and give them a chance. I think our society is so incredibly jaded against those that are different that we miss out on some real gems of people. (like the nanny, or the guy who helped Brad Pitt with his wife, or the father of the two boys).

I don't know if it was the overall best flow for a movie, but the content was there and some of the scenes were very rich - I'm glad I saw it before reading the impressions of others from this thread - I might have had second thoughts and missed out on a very interesting and enjoyable movie (if long).

It was okay but nothing great IMO. B+ maybe.

HBO's Deadwood series is better than 99% of all movies ever made.

I say F this movie. If I had rented it I'm not sure I'd have watched it to the end.

And where exactly did this movie win "Best Picture" at? Certainly not at the Oscars...

I was hoping the girl was going to jump at the end, it would have made the movie somewhat interesting

The hell is up with the kid porn in the movie, little boy beating off to the thought of the naked girl, naked Japanese girl whos supposed to
be a high schooler.

I thought it was a good movie.

I thought it highlighted how life changing events can slowly spiral from a single bad decision and/or difficult circumstance, depending on what choices we make along the way.
